Courtyard by Marriott Mexicali

The hotel is well situated, with plenty of parking, and the rooms are roomy and comfortable. Staff were pleasant, especially around the bar. I had a good stay, though the shower stall had mould and the toilet seat was broken.

We were told at booking that our early check-in request was fine and they’d receive us. But when we arrived at 8:30 in the morning, they said no rooms were available. We came back around 5:30 pm and still got the same answer. Then, as soon as we sat down, two other guests were given rooms. We spent hours waiting, and the staff weren’t helpful, just blamed the lack of rooms. It was easily the worst experience. They also said they’d compensate us for the trouble, but that never happened. We won’t be back.

The hotel itself is good, and I like staying here, but the new gates made getting around a hassle. Each time I wanted to leave, I had to go to the desk for a fresh ticket. I left about 9 or 10 times during my five-day stay, so it got inconvenient. It would help if room keys opened the gates. With other Marriott options in Mexicali, I might pick one of those next time.

There was no Wi-Fi information and no instructions for getting out of the gated parking lot. For $200 a night, I got a shower door that leaked, two bath towels and one hand towel for two people, and no washcloths. I left an item behind and called right away. They said they hadn’t found anything, although my tracker showed it was at the hotel. Liars. Not worth the price.
