HoM Balderas - Hostel

I slept well here because it was quiet, and the staff were friendly and helpful. My room was private, though the bathrooms were shared. The building is a little old and worn, but it’s a solid budget option. There isn’t much nearby, although Balderas station is very close and makes it easy to get to lots of good places.

Jessica, the manager, was great to deal with. She communicated well and helped with anything I needed. The stay was also a great price. The kitchen had everything for cooking meals, and the rooms were neat and impressively quiet. Staff cleaned the floors, bathrooms, and kitchen every day, so the whole hotel felt very clean.

What bothered me most was how uncomfortable the room was. It had no outside window, so it got hot, and the bed was rock hard with flat pillows. There’s only one bathroom for the whole floor, so you may have to wait for a toilet or shower. Construction on the building started around 9:00 or 9:30 in the morning, making sleeping in impossible. I also didn’t find the place very clean, and I saw two cockroaches in my room during the few days I was there. The price is good and the location decent, but those are the only real positives. I’d pay a little more to be comfortable somewhere else.

The location was okay, but the place had a sketchy feel and I didn’t feel safe at night. I worried about my belongings even though they were locked up. There was also a large cockroach in the bathroom. The rooms are packed close together, and some guests were loud and obnoxious. When I complained once, the staff carried on loudly with the person I’d complained about. I’d spend a bit more for somewhere I felt safer.
