The greenery and open grounds give the hotel a lot of charm, and I liked its overall look, the pink bathroom tile, and the great location. The staff were excellent and by far the best part of our stay. Still, I don’t think I’ll return. The property needs a proper facelift, including the rooms. They’re spacious, but cleanliness and upkeep need immediate attention. At first the room seemed fine, but once we settled in, we found hair in both showers, thick dust and grime on top of the fridge, a filthy coffeemaker, and a sink in one bathroom that wouldn’t drain. There were no privacy curtains in the main living area, so people could see inside. The furniture was terribly uncomfortable, the TV was hard to use, and the planter in the room held a very dead plant. Many walls had black surface scratches. The motion sensor lights in the stairwells need attention too. The open-air property gets very dark in the common areas, and proper lighting is a safety must. It’s a charming hotel, but this was my first and last stay.
My partner and I spent a week here in late april. The rooms are large, practically apartments, and the security and staff were incredibly helpful. They made sure we felt safe at all hours, day and night, and gave us restaurant recommendations. When it rained, they even lent us umbrellas. Juan at the front was especially helpful, and we won’t forget that. They made Mexico City a great memory for us.
The room was a good size and had everything we needed for our 5 night stay. The security also added a reassuring bit of safety. It’s in a really great part of CDMX, near lots of good cafes and restaurants. Water pressure was the main downside, going in and out or sometimes cutting off during a shower. Also, CDMX can be noisy, especially in the morning, with lots of honking from cars and trucks.
We’re here now on a girls trip, staying in a beautiful two bed apartment. It’s really well thought out, with stunning decor, comfortable beds, good facilities, a stocked kitchen, lovely terrace, small gym, and a great location. The 24/7 security makes it feel very safe. The noise is a big problem for me. I’m a light sleeper and always wear earplugs. We’re set further back, so street noise hasn’t really bothered us, but sounds from other apartments are ridiculous and still affect my sleep even with earplugs. I can hear cleaners banging and clanging and chairs scraping across the floor above us. The giant pink fridge outside my room looks great but is incredibly noisy at night. I’d be reluctant to return because of the noise, though it’s really pretty. If you’re not a light sleeper like me, you might love it.
We’re grateful we got to stay at Casa Oliva. The hotel is beautiful, with courtyard plants that are amazing and comfortable rooms and common spaces. Roma Norte is an interesting neighborhood, full of restaurants and sidewalk food vendors. The vegan tacos at Paxil were amazing and a must. There are also gentrification issues in Roma Norte, so it’s worth thinking about your impact. Eat local and support the community if you can. The staff were very friendly. A big thanks to Juan at the door, and we’re sorry we didn’t get to say goodbye.
