We barely saw anyone else and had the quiet beach almost to ourselves, no kids around. The place has a rustic, chic look, with nice thoughtful touches, especially the private outdoor shower. Staff were friendly and the service was great. We also loved the grilled seafood and margarita.

Bring mosquito repellent and sunblock, and come with a good attitude. We had a wonderful stay at this simple but cool-looking hotel, with very nice rooms and excellent food and service. It isn't cheap, but it's the best hotel in the area and definitely worth a visit.

We loved the grounds and the easy beach access, and the outdoor bar had good food and a good mojito. The hotel was clean, with a cold pool, though the price felt a little high. We stayed one night, from 1/1/2016 to 1/2/2016. There was no hot tub or fridge, and the showers were only lukewarm. There weren't other room amenities either. It has the best access to the Costa Esmeralda.

We came back for the peaceful feel, the beautiful simple interiors, and the surrounding culture. The whole property felt like a dream, and the staff and food were a big part of why I'd return. I speak very little Spanish, so there was a real language barrier, but everyone was warm and helpful. They didn't judge our attempts to speak Spanish and seemed to appreciate them. We hadn't planned to eat there so often, but the kitchen was outstanding, like being at a more luxurious family member's home, and every meal pleased us. Hotel Azucar isn't for someone after a rowdy holiday at a gated resort, which was exactly what we wanted to avoid.
