Casa Pereyra felt like a cool, quiet break from the hot, noisy street outside. My wife and I spent six nights here, and the room and bed were comfortable. We used the heat pump for warmth a couple of times when the weather turned cold. Breakfast was excellent, with fruit, homemade granola, kefir and toast, plus a different home-cooked Mexican option. The shared spaces are full of flowers and plants, and the welcome was warm. Our hosts were very kind and made the stay great. I’d happily return to Casa Pereyra.

The courtyards at Casa Pereyra are lovely places to sit and take in the feel of this beautifully preserved colonial home. We booked five days because of the positive reviews and its closeness to the Zócalo, and we weren’t disappointed. César, Sara, and the staff made us feel at home from the start. Breakfast runs daily from 8-10am: yogurt, granola, fresh fruit, juice, toast, coffee, and a traditional Oaxacan dish that changes each day. In the afternoon there’s a bottle of local mezcal in the courtyard for guests. Our room was clean, comfortable, and tastefully done, with cozy beds. They even had a digital luggage scale, which came in handy after my shopping. Everything felt thoughtful and welcoming. We’ll stay here again when we return to Oaxaca. Highly recommend.

The shower in room one took a while to get hot, so keep that in mind. Otherwise, we’d absolutely stay again. The hotel was clean, felt very safe, and the staff and location were hard to beat. Breakfast was different and tasty each day, and getting laundry done through the front desk was easy and inexpensive. We also ended up having an impromptu flavored mezcal tasting with our favorite evening desk attendant. Everyone we met was friendly, helpful, and accommodating.

The breakfasts were so good they’re still on my mind. My friend and I picked a room that turned out a little too small for our daily work schedule, but the staff were flexible and helped us out. We got to stay in two rooms, both gorgeous and understated. Every time we opened that beautiful big brown door, someone greeted us with a smile, and the place felt like home. We all knew each other’s names. Nothing felt pretentious, just warmth, quiet, lots of plants, thoughtful little comforts, and a bit of mezcal. We were looked after so well. Thanks again.

The welcome and service at Hotel Casa Pereyra were the best part for us, and the price felt like terrific value. Though it’s listed as a four-star hotel, don’t compare it too closely with a typical US or Playa del Carmen resort. The owners, Cesar and Sarah, and the team were kind and helpful. They arranged an airport pickup, which was a relief, and never pushed tours or restaurant bookings, though they’ll arrange them if you ask. We found the area safe and generally quiet, with most places a convenient 5-20 minute walk away. Breakfast was excellent, especially the black mole, the best we tried in Oaxaca. Complimentary mezcal in the common area each evening was a nice touch. A few things to know: our standard queen room felt tight, and I’m not sure the bed was really queen size. My wife and I are the sort of sleepers who say, “you are hot, don’t touch me,” so your experience may differ. The suite we moved to was spacious, with a firm but comfortable king bed. We were upgraded to Room #1 because a family couldn’t safely manage the spiral staircase to the upstairs bed. If you have mobility or balance concerns, that stairway will be a problem. I can’t speak for the other suites, though I believe some don’t have one. There was some traffic noise, and sound carries through the open doors and windows. It was much quieter after midnight, but early risers and light sleepers who need silence may want earplugs. We loved our stay and would recommend this welcoming base.
