We booked a two-bed family suite through Priceline six months ahead, and the hotel confirmed it had received our reservation. When we arrived, though, we were given a standard queen room with one bed, which wasn't adequate. For all five nights, we paid more than $700 above what the room we actually got would have cost. The front desk wouldn't refund the difference and said we had to take it up with Priceline, that it wasn't their issue. They also said a room closer in size to what we'd booked would cost the higher nightly rate, despite our early booking. The room was tiny and dark, with one window onto an interior alley and no natural light. The shower drained poorly, so water backed up while we were showering. The room photos make the spaces look much larger than they are. Friends in street-facing rooms said it was extremely loud. The decor was modern and well done, and the restaurant and bar staff and bellhop were very nice. But the rooftop "pool" was disappointing and didn't make up for the stay. The reservation problem, the overpayment, and the way the front desk handled it made the whole experience extremely frustrating. We wouldn't stay here again or recommend the hotel. If you're visiting beautiful Oaxaca, stay at the Quinta Real.

Hotel Sin Nombre is beautifully designed, with thoughtful touches like real door keys and a lovely courtyard. The staff were generally kind and helpful, and the location was great for exploring Oaxaca on foot. They also recommended a good nearby overnight parking option, the covered lot on JP Garcia. The art was... interesting. The room was strange and unlike any of the photos. A raised platform bed with stairs took up nearly all the space, an awkward setup and a nightmare for my travel companion, who has mobility issues. There were no windows. I was glad there was A/C, but the room had no clock, TV, phone, fridge, or anything else, just the platform bed and bathroom. The bedding was dirty, and we had to ask for it to be changed. We were near housekeeping and heard a lot of noise, plus street sounds, especially police whistles. We arrived late on a Wednesday and had two burgers and our welcome drinks at the rooftop restaurant. I was then down and out with full-on food poisoning for the next two days. I can't be sure the food caused it, but we'd had no other meals and had come from Mexico City without any problems. We also didn't get the 20% off a one-time food order that our booking site had promised. When we asked whether the unlabeled water in the rooms and courtyard was bottled or filtered, we couldn't get a clear answer, so we avoided it. The hotel itself is beautiful and the staff are kind, but I don't think I'd choose it again.

Sary was wonderful and a real asset to the Hotel. She helped arrange tours, transport, laundry, and much more. The location is right off Zocalo and close to delicious food. We really enjoyed our stay, especially the guacamole app and the views. Thanks to the staff!

On our private four-week tour of Mexico, we've stayed in a range of boutique hotels, all more expensive than we expected, though we put that down to high season. Sin Nombre was the least enjoyable of them. We can't fault the service, but our room was terrible.

Tony deserves a special mention. He was remarkably friendly, incredibly helpful, and gave me great tips on where to go and what to check out on my morning run. The room was fabulous, and the staff provided second-to-none service. The hotel itself was beautiful and in the heart of the city, with all kinds of restaurants and Oaxaca City attractions within walking distance. An amazing experience.
