Hotel Xibalba

We ended up extending our stay, which says it all. The staff were friendly and professional, and there was cold water to refill. The room was basic but really clean, with the best shower pressure we’d had so far in Mexico. It’s a couple of minutes on foot from the bus station, in a leafy hotel district that feels like a park. Palenque is easy to get around on foot too, and the center felt only about 5-10 minutes away.

We were happy with our stay. Our room was cute and looked out onto the garden, and the staff were friendly. There wasn’t hot water, though that’s expected in places like this. A tree came down at the restaurant across the street in the middle of the night, so the power had to be shut off until morning and we could hear chainsaws from the rooms. That was clearly a one-off and not the hotel’s fault.

There’s a good laundry place down the hill, across the bridge on the right. They were quick and did a good job. The hotel itself is central and reasonably priced, with two double beds, a TV, air conditioning, a small safe, and basic toiletries in the rooms. It was mostly quiet, apart from some daytime maintenance banging. I didn’t try the hotel restaurant, and I didn’t find much food in town that appealed to me. The ground floor is wheelchair friendly and it’s kid friendly too. Wifi worked best in the lobby.

We were able to leave our bags there and hang out in the common areas even after check-out, which we really appreciated. The rooms are good sized for the price and quality, the wifi was good, and the service was friendly. Great location too.
