CALIXTA Hotel

The room was already extremely dirty when we checked in, and I didn’t feel comfortable there. There were no washcloths, the shower had visible mold, the curtains were dirty, and dust coated the air vents. It all felt neglected and unsanitary. Basic cleanliness is the least I expect from a hotel, and this stay fell short of that. I was very disappointed and wouldn’t recommend the property.

The rooftop was a letdown, with cheap plastic armchairs instead of the furniture in the photos, no umbrellas, and a bar that stayed closed during the day. A huge construction site next door got noisy from 8am and spoiled the rooftop bar views too. We had to let the water run for 5-10 mins each time before it got hot. When we asked reception about it, a guy playing video games during his shift said, as if it were normal, that there was no hot water. That same person insisted we wear hotel wristbands and said we weren’t allowed to remove them during our stay, even though we weren’t on an all-inclusive plan. There were dried vomit stains on the bathroom walls and on the blinds by the bed. The slick polyester bed covers weren’t breathable and made us sweat at night. It was an incredibly unpleasant stay. We wouldn’t recommend it to anyone with standards.

We never got a response when I contacted the hotel on WhatsApp to ask about a discount, compensation, or partial refund. In my experience, they just say “We are sorry” in replies to reviews, but take no action after they have your money. I’d choose another hotel. There are plenty around, though be aware Calixta is one of several owned by the same chain. The stay itself was really poor. There were bugs in the room on our first night, and we had no hot shower water for 4 days. They took away the extra blanket we requested on day one and never brought it back, forgot to restock toilet paper, and the AC stopped working on our last night. My nose bled while I was in bed, and they charged us 400 mxn pesos for the blood.

I’d booked and paid for a suite well in advance, but when we arrived they said it wasn’t available and sent us to another hotel without any message beforehand. The room they gave us was clearly lower quality, and we had to argue to get something better. It may be a nice hotel, but I don’t trust them after this and won’t be back. Stay away from this scam.
