The pool was left uncleaned for nearly a month once, until it was black, and upkeep in general is poor. The maintenance crew can take weeks or longer to start air conditioning repairs, sometimes leaving it worse, and they may charge you for the work. Getting locked out costs 500 pesos even though they have a spare key. Noise from construction and parties, along with paper-thin walls, made it hard to work from home or sleep. Things were regularly stolen, but despite cameras on site, they wouldn’t review the footage with me or say who took anything. I’ve lived in more than 15 apartments, and this was easily my worst experience. The furnished beds looked about 15 years old. Black mold at Casa Isza was a major problem. I got sicker week by week, and if I left the air conditioning on overnight, I’d wake up badly congested from mold in the ducts. The landlord, Angela, said I’d get part of my deposit back. After nearly two months of asking for it, I realized she didn’t intend to return it and had no ethics. I spoke with many former residents, and none of them had received their deposits back. Avoid renting from these slumlords.
By January, there was no water for a week and no hot water for three weeks. Construction resumed next door after a two-month lull, with noise until midnight and starting again at 0600. In December, I had no internet for 12 of my 22 days there. It only worked when it felt like it. The second day I arrived, the power went out for two days. Hot water and internet were often unavailable, and the furniture was made from wooden pallets. DON'T RENT HERE.
The place is damp, and my apartment had constant water leaks. Things kept breaking from the moment I moved in. I’d send Angela evidence and hear back a week later, by which time I’d already fixed the problem myself or found someone else to help. The location is the one good thing, since it’s somewhat central. Dealing with Angela was the worst part. I never met her in person, and WhatsApp was the only way to reach her. She responded slowly and showed no respect or ethics toward the tenants. I moved out two months ago and have been messaging almost every day to get my deposit back. Don’t rent here, not even for a day.
Even though I only stayed one night, the owner refused to return my deposit after I decided not to move in. That first night I found bed bugs. They said they’d fumigate, but with all the wooden furniture, I didn’t think that would help. The internet was usable during the day, then got so bad in the evening that I couldn’t even send a WhatsApp message. Worst place I’ve rented in Playa.
Over 10 months I had plenty of problems with the water, bathroom, internet, and other things. There was also a lot of noise from neighbors and construction on the building next door. The owner is a liar, thief, and crook. She won’t return my deposit, even though I never signed a contract.
