Hard Rock Hotel Riviera Maya - Hacienda and Heaven

Paola and Moises made our stay feel personal from the moment we arrived. They were warm and professional, handled reservations, checked in during the day, and added thoughtful touches without needing to be asked. Paola seemed to anticipate what we’d need, while Moises kept everything running smoothly. What I’ll remember most is how sincere they both seemed and how much care they put into their work. We’re grateful for their kindness. If they’re your butlers, you’re in good hands. 10/10 service!

We came back because our February 2024 stay was wonderful. We’d loved the staff, culture, and atmosphere, and returned this year with friends expecting the same. Instead, this visit has been deeply disappointing. The room we were given looked straight at AC units and vents, and after traveling from New Jersey, that wasn’t what we’d hoped for. We asked to switch, but were told the resort was fully booked. While we were getting ready for dinner, the power went out. Around then, family and friends back home contacted us about reports of violence in the area connected to a cartel-related incident. We know the resort can’t control events outside its property, but it was unsettling, so we canceled our offsite excursions to be cautious. Things inside weren’t better. The AC in both rooms needed servicing because it wasn’t cooling properly, and the power kept going out. For the past two days, our building has reportedly been running on a generator. The lights work, but the outlets don’t, so we can’t charge our phones. There’s also been no hot water. Coming back after dinner and activities to a cold shower isn’t the vacation we expected at this price. Guest services offered a complimentary massage, and we appreciate the gesture. What we need are reliable electricity, working AC, and hot water, basic things that should be available. This stay hasn’t met the standard that brought us back, and based on it, I wouldn’t return.

Our three boys, ages 5, 3, and 1, had a blast at Hard Rock Riviera Maya, and we had a fantastic family vacation. The resort was very kid-friendly, with plenty of food choices, friendly staff, and lots in between. The Roxcity Kids Club was a highlight for our oldest, who spent a couple of hours there each day. Big thanks to Caro, Yelly, Urs, Karen, Liz, Mar, Frida, and Dani for the hands-on attention he got. There was a fairly significant incident overnight on our last night. The Hard Rock team responded well the next morning, and we’re working together now to find a reasonable resolution. I’m confident it’ll be resolved soon.

There’s a lot for kids to do here, from bowling and the kids' club to laser tag, climbing, a music club, and arcade machines. The hotel also has two big pools and a water park. It doesn’t open directly onto the sea, but the lagoons are great for children and for anyone who doesn’t enjoy waves. The modern shows are excellent, the staff are pleasant and do their jobs well, and the restaurant food is good. The weaker parts are the rooms and meals. We stayed in the red zone; the blue zone looks nicer, but it’s adults only. Rooms are damp, have a strong moldy smell, and there’s no dehumidifier. Our child developed a severe cough without a sore throat, which suggested a mold allergy. The rooms look old, and some parts are coming off, though they are cleaned regularly. One night there was a small fire in a room, and smoke spread through the rooms without the fire alarm going off. You can’t reserve restaurant seating ahead. You have to arrive and wait: just before opening, you might get seated in 15 minutes, while at other times the wait can exceed an hour. That makes it hard to know where or when dinner will happen. Pool loungers are another scramble, and there aren’t enough if you go down after breakfast or later. This place has good and bad sides. If rooms and restaurant waits don’t matter to you, the rest is excellent. Membership is available, but there are enough drawbacks that I’d avoid buying it, even if you were interested.
