Hostal Lezzoto 2.5 Beach - Hostel

It’s still under construction, but you’re just steps from the beach and a two-minute walk from the bus terminal. The price is higher, though I thought it was worth it. The room has huge lockers and a key for the dorm, which made it feel very safe and secure as a solo traveler. Loved my stay and would come back. Highly recommend.

Being close to the beach doesn’t make it okay to rip people off, especially young backpackers. I paid 1000 mx per night, but there was no bathroom water. Right after I checked in, they said the water pipes were being cleaned and I’d have to wait an hour to wash or shower. It looked like the place had been without water for a long time. I waited, but there was still no water, so after about two hours there I asked for my money back for the two nights I’d paid for and left. The beds were so thin I could feel the springs, and the photos showed nothing like the actual place.

It’s clean and near the beach, but that’s about all I liked. At 650 pesos a night it was way overpriced, with no hot water and Wi-Fi that didn’t work during my entire stay. For the same money, you can find a private room at a small hotel nearby. I wouldn’t recommend it.

Ruby at reception made me feel at home and helped me with everything, including great tips for exploring Playa del Carmen and the region. The hostel is right in front of the beach and in the middle of downtown. I loved it and will come back!
