In all my years of travelling, I've never had such a bizarre experience. We paid for a “private double room with a shared bathroom,” listed as “Matrimonio privado con baño compartido.” Instead, our double bed was in one section, with a wall separating it from another room containing two beds. The people staying there had to walk straight through our space to reach it. How is that private? We were trying to relax in bed while strangers came right through our room to get to what they called their private room, which was really just part of ours. It was a dormitory. Make it make sense. The receptionist said it counted as a private room, just not totally private. By that logic, you might as well call buses private taxis. When we asked for a key to lock the room, she said we couldn't have one because it wasn't a private room...

The kitchen was disgusting and unusable. There wasn't even a sponge for washing dishes, and the tables were left dirty. We also came across guests who showed no acceptable level of respect, while the staff said nothing and seemed to care very little. They were almost nowhere to be seen. The location might suit someone looking to party for two days in the middle of the action, with some background noise. That isn't my issue. I rarely complain, but honestly, this gets zero stars. Run away!

I've stayed here three times and would definitely return. Each visit is different as staff change, but I've never had a bad experience. The staff have always been friendly and attentive, prices are reasonable, and the rooms are excellent. It's on 5th Avenue, so everything is nearby. The hostel's cleanliness has been acceptable. Nights can be noisy since it's in a bar area. There's also a bar where you can buy beer and other alcoholic drinks. Breakfast is sometimes included, with things like eggs, bread, tea, or coffee.
