Hotel Maya Turquesa - Playa del Carmen

From check-in onward, the attitude felt unprofessional and unwelcoming. Breakfast was very poor, and they tried to charge extra even though we'd been told it was included. After I kept bringing up the problems, I was ultimately asked to leave the hotel. For three days in a row, our room and bathroom were left uncleaned despite multiple requests to reception each day. We were told housekeeping would come, but nobody showed up. That morning I asked again and was told it would be done by 4 PM. When I came back around 3, nothing had been touched. At about 3:30, a housekeeper said reception had told her not to clean our room. Reception confirmed it was a management decision. I documented the situation with photos and videos. Based on this experience, I can't recommend the hotel.

We'd blindly booked a week through Priceline. When we arrived, they charged us again for the week, had me sign the paperwork, and then took us to a disgusting room. We stayed about 30 minutes while we tried to figure out where to go that night. They didn't want to refund us, so I had to dispute the credit card payment. I didn't even take photos, I just wanted to get out as soon as possible.

I went to the hotel restaurant for breakfast and found coffee marked “FREE” on the menu as included. But when I got some, they told me it cost an extra 40 pesos. That felt misleading and frustrating, especially with everyone else helping themselves to coffee.

The bathroom barely worked and wasn't properly cleaned. There were bugs on the ceiling and dirty sheets, plus three to five remotes for things like the AC, fan, TV, and something else I didn't bother to figure out. Door locks were easy to open without a key and didn't work properly. There's no elevator, and the “pool” seemed to be there for show. At 2 am I had to get my male cousins from around the corner to help me get my money back. Reception spoke no English, so we used Google Translate, despite being told staff were bilingual. Don't be tempted by the cheap price. Spend the extra $50 a night somewhere else. Don't go here.
