Hotel Villas Segovia Playa del Carmen

The staff were lovely and helpful. We arrived late after booking at the last minute, and a nice man met us and helped with our cases from the taxi. Check-in was easy. The next morning we had a lovely Mexican-style breakfast with fruit and natural yogurt beside the small but adequate pool. My kids loved it! Our room was clean and had a patio onto the public pool area. We walked around, down 5th avenue, then to the beach and back to the hotel. The morning had a nice buzz, and we felt very safe. We’d definitely stay here again, thank you 😊

For a short, inexpensive stay, it was pretty good, and the rooms were clean and spacious. Breakfast was good too: you put in your order the night before, and they deliver it to your room. The staff are pleasant, though speaking English was quite a chore. The pool was closed for repairs on the day we arrived, but reopened the next day. I’d put this at 2-3 stars, not 4 or 5. The pool is really small, with no privacy because it’s beside the road and front entrance. There’s no ice, bar, or corkscrew at the hotel. The water had a pretty strong sulfur smell, and we brought that to the staff’s attention when we checked out.

This isn’t a five-star hotel, two stars at most. They don’t speak English here, and seemed to be trying to prove to me that I’m in Mexico, even though this is supposed to be a five-star hotel. It was raining hard, and when I asked for an umbrella, they said they didn’t have any. Maybe there was one, but they wouldn’t give it to me. After I showed a little indignation, they started intimidating me with the police. I wonder why? It was supposedly for disrespect. I don’t feel respected here. I feel like I’m in a camp, having to account for my every move. And all this for MY MONEY, even though I don’t drink alcohol at all. If you like smiling when you don’t want to, and putting up with your rights being infringed, then this hotel is for you. If you want comfort and freedom, better not choose it.

The hotel is in a great spot, just one block from 5th Ave, and the breakfast was always on time. Everyone was nice, and the staff were friendly and professional. The woman at the front desk was especially attentive when she helped us book a taxi. Congratulations.
