The so-called rooftop pool is more like a jacuzzi, and it was nasty. The window screen doesn’t lock and banged loudly in the wind all night. The water was a health concern for me. After showering or washing my hands, my skin smelled of rust. I found rust inside the faucet and shower arm pipe, and there was an obvious leak on the tile. The faucet had been painted gray to cover the rust. This was my second room. The faucet in the first room hadn’t been painted and was completely rusted.

The hotel is clean, though worn, and the staff respond to you. It seems like they’re trying to improve an older place. The location is great, in the old part of Playa Carmen, with the Gulf, a cenote, and a Mayan ruin within 100 yards.

The location is amazing, and it’s cheap. I liked having a balcony, too. The only problems were no hot water in the shower at night and a broken showerhead. We just needed a room, so it worked great for us. No regrets!

The location is great, which makes the condition of the place even more disappointing. Paint was peeling, the curtains were old and barely attached, and the whole place felt old and dirty. The sheets were stained and too small, and the mattresses were moldy or stained. Towels were tiny, and there were no small face towels. I felt embarrassed to bring a friend. The safe wasn’t working, though they fixed it after I asked. The patio door lock was broken too, and they came to repair that as well. Don’t expect coffee in the morning or even bottled water. There’s no pool, and the rooftop jacuzzi was closed. The owners seem not to care about guests, and I wanted to leave immediately. It’s unbelievable, really. There was no way to get my money back. I own a hotel and felt seriously offended by all this misery. A little care would go a long way.
