Maya Villa Condo Hotel & Beach Club

A foul, sewage-like smell filled the apartment. We called to complain and ask for a fix. After an employee confirmed it was really bad, they moved us temporarily to another room, instead of giving us a permanent one. Before our early ferry to Cozumel, we had to drop off that temporary room's key at reception, which isn't on the property. At noon they messaged to say the problem was fixed, but when we returned the smell was still there, just milder. Maintenance staff casually said sewage smells "sometimes happen." Eventually they moved us to a unit on the other side of the property. That one smelled okay, but there was a cockroach by the shower and lots of bathroom flies. We spent around five hours dealing with staff and moving, losing precious time on an already too-short vacation. The main person at the desk was completely apathetic, though the other staff tried to help. We lost time and got no compensation for the problems the hotel caused. It was a horrible experience. Sewage smell, a cockroach in the shower, flies, and a desk employee who couldn't care less. Nobody should choose this hotel.

We spent two nights in Playa del Carmen. When we first walked into the room, we told the helpless guy the foul smell was far too strong. He said there was nothing he could do since it was already 9pm. After a 12-hour flight from Cancun airport, we needed to rest, so it wasn't okay, but we put up with it. The next morning we asked the front desk to move us while we went to Cozumel. Thankfully, there was another room when we got back. It was on the ground floor, so the four of us had to haul all TWELVE bags up and down more than five times. The employee didn't lift a finger, even though they really should help at a 4-star resort, especially when the move was their fault. The new room smelled much better, but the street noise was unbearable and made it hard to sleep. The property itself is good, but needs some fixes and better employees.

The staff were superb and the property was kept in perfect shape. Everything matched the pictures, and the value for the price was perfect. We extended our stay several times. Better to stay here than in el taj, trust me.

I like the atmosphere and the jungle vegetation look. The pool isn't very big, but they give you the option of going to el taj as another choice. The location near 5th Avenue was great, yet the place felt calm and relaxed.
