The rooftop pool area has the best unobstructed ocean view. I rented a one-bedroom suite from November through the end of February and really enjoyed my stay. Robin, the property manager, was kind, attentive, and professional, and he and his staff were friendly and available.

Robin, the manager, was such a nice and thoughtful man, and all his staff were friendly. Our room was clean, the bed was comfortable, and the A/C worked well. The place is close to the beach and 5th Avenue, but quiet at night. The only issue was a dog on our floor barking at hallway noises, presumably when its owner wasn’t in the unit. It was affordable, near the beach, and away from downtown PDC’s noise. Thank you, Robin and staff. 😃

After six months here, I couldn’t wait to leave. The cleaning ladies are nice, but the front desk team is rude. I’ve seen them laugh at other guests who were complaining. The gym is advertised, but everything in it is broken. There’s a rooftop BBQ, but they expect you to leave it cleaner than you found it and provide no cleaning tools. The pool is freezing and keeps leaking even after repairs. The rooftop loungers are old, saggy, and uncomfortable. Building Wi-Fi is awful, and you can’t even get cell signal in your room. Humidity is an issue in every room, and the bathroom walls have mold. Makeup brushes get musty and stink, and towels smell if left under the counter. The walls are poorly built, so you can hear people around you talking at night. Whether you’re thinking of a short stay or a longer one, there are much better options in Playa. This place is badly run by people who don’t care, and the front desk staff are among the worst I’ve encountered. Please read other reviews and don’t judge it by the photos.

I got two bacterial infections during my stay, possibly from tap water used in ice. The place felt unhygienic and unsafe, and it’s badly mismanaged. The Mayan Monk Hotel in Playa del Carmen looks good in photos, but my experience was terrible. There was no proper hot water, the hairdryer was broken, the safe didn’t work, the pool was dirty, and the Wi-Fi was unstable. My room wasn’t cleaned once in six nights. There were no fresh towels or trash removal, and the smell was unbearable. Since toilet paper can’t be flushed in Mexico, the bin overflowed for days. Completely unhygienic. The so-called gym is a joke. Most of the equipment is broken: the rowing machine doesn’t work, the weights are old and rusty, and only one cable trainer was usable. Advertising it as a fitness area is misleading. When I had a medical emergency, possibly thrombosis, and went to the hospital, the manager sent a message through Booking telling me to check out by noon or they’d forcibly remove me from the room. He was incredibly rude and heartless. No compassion, professionalism, or humanity. Avoid this place at all costs. Do not book here.
