There’s an open-air frog disco just around the corner, playing until 2am and making the building’s walls literally vibrate. It’s a nightmare. On top of that, the caretaker behaves inappropriately and has no service mentality. If you want a horrible old lady harassing you, this is the perfect place. Avoid!

The apartment is right in the center, just steps from Quinta Avenida and Playa del Carmen’s main nightlife, so the location is one of its strongest points. We stayed there for two nights over New Year’s Eve with our children, ages 7, 4, and 2. The apartment was spacious, which was handy with kids, though it seemed dated and wasn’t as clean as it could be. It’s on the second floor with no elevator, so carrying luggage was difficult, especially for families. The clubs and music nearby also make the area noisy at night, which can be annoying with small children. The lady managing the apartment was very helpful. She gave us useful suggestions for restaurants, beaches, supermarkets, and taxis for our short stay in Playa, and even offered to carry some of our bags to the room. We really appreciated that.

The apartment was clean, well equipped, and in a good location. The housekeeper was very attentive to anything we might need, and we loved the place, so we’ll definitely return. A couple of things to keep in mind: there’s no parking, and in that area of Playa del Carmen it costs $20 MXN per hour from 10 am to 10 pm, Monday to Sunday. We parked at the supermarket three blocks away. Since it’s on 5th Avenue, there’s also a place across the street playing loud music until very late. It could bother a light sleeper, but we were so tired when we got back that we fell asleep quickly.
