We used to come here for four months every year, but that’s over now. I’m trying to find the quaint, quiet building I remember. Renovations on the poolside penthouse have apparently turned Studio 1 into a beach club, with electronic music from noon until 4 a.m., if you’re lucky. The pounding carries through the whole building, and there’s nothing you can do about it. It went from a little piece of paradise to an absolute torture chamber. Very disturbing. I wouldn’t come now even if it were free.

That first-floor studio was a lovely place to stay for a few weeks. I loved having such a huge terrace, and it was so close to the beach and the 38 street stuff.
