The staff were really nice, and the stay was very good apart from the unbearable noise. I hadn't noticed when booking that we were next to the main street.

There was active construction next door, so please check the videos before booking. We managed only five hours of sleep across two nights, even though we're not light sleepers, and checked out two days early just for a chance to rest. Staff moved us up one floor on the first night, which we appreciated, but it made no difference. The construction noise was extremely loud and going on 24/7. The property sent me lots of emails before check-in but never mentioned the work, which left a sour taste. We requested a full refund and were very disappointed. Edit: The hotel agreed to a full refund, which I really appreciate. I don't think this was the hotel's fault, just good people in a bad situation.

For a week or longer, this is a great place if you'll be spending your time outside the hotel. The rooms are large, clean, and modern, with a half refrigerator/freezer, sink, stove, microwave, comfortable bed, good a/c, big multi-channel TV, living room furniture, and a balcony with a table and two chairs. There's also a key safe and a large tiled bathroom with a glass-enclosed tiled shower. Manager Norma and the staff are wonderful. There's no food served on site. The room entrance uses a high-tech fingerprint system registered through the manager's phone app. The balcony sliding door is unlocked, and a small rail separates it from the adjoining balcony. The rooftop whirlpool has weak jets and the water isn't hot; the pool tiles need scrubbing, though pool towels are provided. Calle 14 Norte is closed to car traffic. Cart vendors take up the street near Av Quinta, and the area toward Av 10 is reserved for truck traffic, including nightly garbage collection.

Paco was the kindest person we met in all of Mexico. He was always helpful and so easy to talk to, and we ended up thinking of him as a friend. The staff were lovely, too, and our room was cleaned every day with beautiful towel shapes. It was spotless and in a great spot near 5th Avenue, but still quiet. We had a great stay in Playa del Carmen.
