The Yucatan Resort Playa del Carmen

The rooftop is beautiful, with an excellent pool and ocean views, and the location made it easy to get everywhere while staying a little away from the busiest areas. Our room was spacious, the bed was very comfortable, and housekeeping cleaned it well every day. We enjoyed the stylish boutique feel, relaxed atmosphere, and friendly, helpful staff during our two weeks at the Yucatán Tapestry Collection in Playa del Carmen. A few maintenance details needed attention. A cupboard didn’t seem properly installed, some doors jammed now and then, the bathroom door wouldn’t lock, and we never got a bath mat, so the floor got quite wet after showers. One of the two lifts was out of service for the whole stay. The air conditioning stopped working throughout the hotel one evening, but was fixed fairly quickly. There was also a very loud electronic music event on the rooftop one evening, apparently mainly for outside patrons rather than guests. The building shook and we could hear the music in our rooms until around midnight. It didn’t fit the otherwise relaxed feel of the hotel. On arrival, they couldn’t initially find our booking, which was stressful after a long trip, though it was eventually sorted out. We enjoyed the stay overall and the hotel has a lot going for it. More attention to maintenance and clearer communication about events could make it excellent.

Eduardo at the front desk was super friendly and accommodating, and the staff gave us great recommendations. Just know what you’re getting into: this hotel is on 5th street, so it’s ideal if you want nightlife and easy access to the action. The music can be incredibly loud, though. On a random Tuesday, the bass had our whole room shaking until 5 AM. It’s hard to imagine a weekend being quieter. Getting an early night’s sleep was almost impossible. If you party until 5 AM and sleep all day, this place could work well for you.

The room was clean, everything worked, and parking under the building was super easy. Eduardo at the front desk was friendly and accommodating, and the staff had great recommendations. There’s excellent food and plenty of shops a short walk away, plus the hotel opens right onto 5th street. It was central to everywhere we drove and visited, and we’ll definitely come back. The lobby, rooftop pool, and view were beautiful, and the beach is only a block away. The hotel is right by the nightlife, but we barely heard music in our room on the side away from 5th street. At night it wasn’t too bad for us, despite what some people have said. If you want to be close to the action, this is a nice place to stay.

The location is phenomenal, and the rooms are huge, spacious, and simply but nicely decorated. Fernando and Darina are lovely people who go above and beyond with their hospitality. Every restaurant is at most a five-minute walk. I know Playa so well I’m practically Playanese, and this hotel is a gem. I’d recommend it just for the location. Please respect Mexico. It’s not the US, and personally that’s the best part. Sometimes there are power problems. It happens, so don’t complain. Walk to the beach and relax, and the power should be back within a few hours. I promise. Stay here.
