The place is an okay budget option, close to the beach, and the beer isn’t expensive. But I’m giving it a low rating because one staff member treated us so rudely. He wore headphones, shouted nonsense in Spanish, and when I tried to ask him something, he shouted back in Spanish with an unfriendly expression. I believe his name was Aldo, and he was ridiculously tanned. The beach was crowded with kids and didn’t impress me. If you can, stay somewhere else because of the rude staff.

Shalom feels like a place where everyone is welcome if you’re into the vibe. The atmosphere is great, with a pool and a bar out front, and it’s just a five-minute walk to the best beach Puerto Escondido has to offer. There’s plenty of space to play guitar, run around with your dog, or fool around, and dogs are welcome. Private and shared rooms are available. Best hostel I’ve stayed at in five months! 🤭😄😎🎸💞✨💫🔱

Camping was 150 pesos. This is a lovely, laid-back “hostel” and a great place to hang out. The pool was a bit murky, but still fine for swimming. It can be very noisy at night, and there are lots of ants. The bathrooms were okay, but only cleaned sporadically. The kitchen is great, though every time I went in there was a sink full of dishes waiting to be washed. People cooked and left the place filthy. There were volunteers working, though “working” might be a generous way to describe it. Aside from the hygiene and cleanliness issues, it’s a great place to stay.

The staff are wonderful, and the place has a really relaxed, colorful feel. It was also the cheapest option.

There’s plenty of room here, and you’re just two minutes from the beach, right by the main roads in the area. Our room and the amenities were clean, and the staff were kind and helpful. The kitchen has lots of space and tables for eating. In the evenings, the bar and lobby feel lively, with guests chatting and Wi-Fi available. It’s reasonably priced without being a wild party hostel, so it works well for couples and families. I’d recommend it.
