Casitas Kinsol

After a disappointing Airbnb booking, we arrived at Casitas Kinsol in the middle of the night. I’m glad that other place fell through, because this spot turned out to be a real treasure. Walking through the gate from the city street feels like entering a jungle paradise, with rustic rooms, lush plants, birds singing, and lovely touches of Mayan influence. The host quickly settled us and our two young children into a room and shared lots of useful tips for exploring nearby. You won’t regret staying here.

The casitas are peaceful and really nice, and the location is good. A car is useful if you’re heading to the beach, though you can rent bikes at reception. The owners and staff are very friendly, and their dogs are adorable.

The place itself is beautiful, like an oasis. Sadly, the proprietor ruined my stay. She seemed nice at first, but after I paid and got the key, the amount I’d been quoted doubled. I’d paid for seven days, yet after four days she made me leave. She screamed, smashed things, and said she had mental problems, then pushed me out through the gate, slammed it, and locked it. I was left without money to find another place and had to wait outside for a friend to pick me up. It was a terrible experience and wrecked my time there. They don’t post rates anywhere, so they can quote one price over the phone and demand double once you arrive. It’s a shame, because it’s a beautiful place, but the proprietor spoiled it.

Puerto Morelos has a hidden gem here, away from the crowded tourist zones but still close to everything you need. The decor has beautiful Maya influences, and the well-kept jungle around you is stunning. It’s absolutely breathtaking, hard to believe when you see it. I highly recommend staying here.
