The hotel itself is great, with clean, well-kept rooms and grounds. We also had a fantastic couples massage, the Romantic Ritual, at the spa. It’s pricey, but they included extras that weren’t mentioned in the description, like sparkling wine and chocolate-covered strawberries in our room afterward. One side of the hotel borders a golf course, with a clear path across it that shortens the walk to the Tau Beach Club. The Club is a much better place to eat than the hotel’s single restaurant, Emiliano. Its food and service are great, and dinner there is fantastic, especially with the best tables looking out at the sea and sunset. I recommend eating there as often as you can. For lunch, you can also skip Emiliano and get snacks from the pool staff. At Emiliano, the food is good, but the wait staff regularly get orders wrong or take them to the wrong table, sometimes after they’ve gone cold. Service is strangely better at dinner, even though it’s the same staff. At lunch, I spent hours trying to get the waiter’s attention, sending wrong orders back, and waiting hungry while nearby tables were seated, served, and gone. Gerardo is almost comically bad at the job. He may be affable, but he’s forgetful and error-prone, and waiting tables doesn’t suit him. The pool staff who take food and drink orders are excellent. Avalos is especially friendly, hardworking, and detail-oriented. I watched him carry a tray of 20 drinks around the pool and deliver every one to the right person without checking notes. If the restaurant had waiters as good as him, this would be a five-star review. It’s a shame the restaurant service is so bad. Avoid this hotel until they fix it.

We’ve just finished our second trip to Casa Velas, and we’re already planning to return in November. It’s adults-only, which suits us well because we want a quiet, peaceful break. We’re still rookies compared with many of the other guests, who’ve been coming for years or even decades. That says a lot about the experience, and we hope to become regulars too. The main property is gorgeous, with paths through tropical flowers and plants, plus a botanical garden and koi pond. Although it’s a little inland, the all-inclusive package includes the Tau Beach Club. It’s an easy 12-minute walk or just a few minutes by courtesy van. We spent most days at the Beach Club, then came back to the large main pool later in the afternoon, so we got the best of both places. We ate nearly all our dinners at the Club, with a different world cuisine each night, sunsets over the ocean, and waves to listen to during the meal. There was often live background music at both the Beach Club and Emiliano. The food at both restaurants was better than we expected from an all-inclusive resort. The staff are a big part of what makes a resort, and Casa Velas has a wonderful team. At the Tau Beach Club, Enrique, Carlos, Antonio, Erick, Leslie, and Isaac helped make our stay special. At Emiliano’s Restaurant, it was Omar, Alfredo, Camilia, Fernando, Geraldo, Daniel, and Jesus. Our room housekeepers, Ramona and Naydelin, were wonderful too. You can request the daily cleaning and evening turndown at specific times when you check in, which is very convenient. At the main pool, Avalos and Ulises were great. Alonso, Victoria, Esmeralda, and Denise, the concierge, were at the main lobby desk. Fredy was at the lobby bar, and Alex and Armando drove the courtesy van.

Esmeralda took such good care of us throughout our stay. She was kind, professional, and attentive to every detail, and we always felt welcome and looked after. It was our first time in Mexico, and Casa Velas made the trip unforgettable. We loved the food and atmosphere, and every part of the service was exceptional. Thank you for giving us such beautiful memories. We’ll always remember this visit and can’t wait to return!

This boutique hotel is a gem. We were first-timers, and it became one of our best vacations. Everything, from the grounds, pools, and beach club to the spacious rooms, felt thoughtfully done. The rooms had marble floors and bathrooms, beautiful real wood furniture, and impeccable bedding and linens. The farm-to-table meals and drinks were five-star, and I don’t think Eggs Benedict will ever be the same elsewhere! Above all, the staff were wonderful: genuinely kind, warm-hearted, and gracious. Even with all the luxury, it felt intimate and lovely rather than stuffy. We’re so grateful, and we’ll see you again.

We only stayed one night, but we’ll never forget Casa Velas. We arrived distressed after finding ourselves in a very scary situation. The staff gave us shelter when we needed it most, welcoming us with smiles and reassuring us that we were safe. We’re forever grateful. After we collapsed into bed, we woke up and took in just how stunning the resort was. Our room had a private little yard, a small pool, and comfortable seating. It felt serene, with flowers overflowing, birds chirping, and lizards darting around. It was exactly what my soul needed. The food was excellent, the staff were wonderful all around, and the view of the fabulous pool from the patio seating can’t be beat. Anyone visiting Puerto Vallarta would be lucky to stay here.
