The coffee was terrific, and the wait staff in the main dining room were polite and efficient. That was about it for the good parts. The rooms smelled dank, the food was horrible, and the pool music blasted every day from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Staff couldn’t speak English. My wife and I aren’t picky, but I’d avoid this hotel at all costs. Two other Canadian couples also tried to find another hotel as soon as they arrived. One couple said their toilet didn’t work and they had to call the front desk every morning to get hot water in their room. Our toilets were disgusting, one shower had mold, and a ground-floor bedroom window didn’t close or lock properly, which made us worry about security. Please don’t book here. We escaped to the Sheraton next door for the odd meal and drinks, and the Westin Resort & Spa near the marina is another nice hotel in the area. Air Canada Vacations offers this place, but that doesn’t make it any less of a disaster. The other Canadians we met also found Air Canada’s local representatives completely useless. Avoid this hotel at all costs!
The only bright spot was the manager, Victor. The front desk staff were rude, and there was no food when we checked in at 4pm, even though we’d paid for an all-inclusive food menu. We asked for a quiet room but got one right above the pool, where the music was so loud that we couldn’t sleep. When we arrived for breakfast, we were told it was over. Customer service and the all-inclusive menu were both severely lacking. Stay away and choose another hotel.
The location is central, with a supermarket next door, and there’s a crocodile nearby that’s cool if you happen to see it. The hotel has two pools and a kiddie pool, plus family activities at night, though we didn’t attend them. The beach has coarse sand and strong Pacific waves, so play at your own risk, but it can be nice to relax there. The accommodations are the main reason I wouldn’t recommend coming back. The rooms are very outdated, with furniture that looks at least 20 years old. There’s no central AC, just air conditioning in the bedrooms, not the living room. There’s a mini safe, but no hair dryer, iron, ironing board, or mini fridge. While we were out, housekeeping came in and maintenance removed one of the dining-area fan switches. There’s one fan in the living room and another in the dining area. We told the lobby, they paged someone, but nobody came. With temperatures in the high 80s, it was uncomfortable unless we were in the bedroom or out of the room. The food is very basic and plain. As a Mexican, I found it borderline poor quality. There were no snacks or ice cream for the kids, just fruit, which is healthy, but you don’t come on vacation to eat healthy. The lobby drinks tasted like nothing, and after about 5 drinks I mostly felt bloated. Parking is horrible if you bring your own car on the weekend. They may have space for 30 cars for about 250 rooms, so good luck if you rent or drive here. I wouldn’t stay here again, mainly because of the accommodations.
The bartender was really nice, and the activities were okay, probably the best part of my visit about a week ago. The food and service were horrible. The beach was super bad, with tiny rocks instead of sand that hurt my feet. People were really rude when I asked for towels or went to the snack bar, and they talked down to me. The room was bad too: the TV didn’t work, the AC wouldn’t get cold, and the water pressure was poor.
I came back because I loved everything about this hotel years ago, but it’s gone downhill. Room 1904 had a broken, stained sofa, old dirty curtains, and stained walls, and the pool area looked like a market. The lobby staff were rude and unhelpful. Breakfast was good and dinner decent, but lunch was terrible. At Los Elechos, even if you reserve at 8 am with three people ahead of you, there may be no room by the time your turn comes. Check-in is at 3 pm and checkout is at noon, so you lose a whole day. Honestly, I won’t return.
