We wanted a joyful, intimate oceanfront wedding for no more than 50 of our closest family and friends, and Costa Sur Resort turned out to be just the hidden gem we’d hoped to find. The resort is away from the busy tourist areas, and its small size gave us a real at-home feeling during our stay. The rooms are a little outdated, but that suited the rustic charm we wanted, and every room has a wonderful ocean view. There’s a cove right in front of the property that felt private and was great for swimming. The food was delicious too. The staff were all friendly, available, and prompt, and they got to know our group and took great care of everyone. Jess, our wedding coordinator, was especially wonderful. She took the time to understand our vision and made it happen beautifully, right down to the small details. She listened, helped us find alternatives when some ideas weren’t quite right, and stayed flexible whenever we needed that. She made our dream wedding real, and I can’t thank her enough. Thank you to Costa Sur, Jess, and the whole staff for making both the wedding and our stay unforgettable.

The ocean right off our balcony was lovely, and we slept really comfortably. The restaurant food was delicious, the service was good, and Martha did a very good job housekeeping. It feels like a good middle class resort, though definitely not top end anymore. There were no pool towels available, our room was missing bath towels on the first night, and we had to ask for them. After that, they kept us stocked. Some of the gym equipment was out of order too.

A smaller, lovely resort south of Puerto Vallarta, with full oceanfront views from the king suites. You can watch the famous PVR sunsets and fall asleep to the sound of waves. The rocky beach is private, and the breakwater makes the waves gentler, so you can snorkel, paddleboard, or kayak. Staff are friendly, and breakfast is excellent and complimentary. There’s a bus stop across the street, making it easy to get to Zona Romantica, Mismaloya, and Boca. The suites include a kitchen with a stovetop, fridge, cooking utensils, microwave, dining table, and couch.

The balcony view is the one good thing about the south tower. We’ve stayed here many times, and the north tower has been renovated, but the south tower seems to have had no care or maintenance for years. The room smelled musty, the shower door was broken, and although there was a safe, they said we could get a key for it in a couple of days. There were no amenities in the building. It looks like it hasn’t been updated in a long time, with old, bulky rattan lamps. The bed was comfortable enough, but our feet turned black from walking around the room at night, so we had to wear shoes inside. Be careful when booking. Do not stay in the south tower.
