Hostal Vallarta Suites

We ended up leaving for another hotel and never got reimbursed. The room we moved into had serious mold and no air conditioning, after the hostel couldn’t keep us in one room for the whole stay. The price was high for what we got, especially compared with Balmar, where we paid the same and had a better location, plus a fridge and microwave in the room. The kitchen wasn’t available until after 10 a.m., and the continental breakfast was pretty bad. Staff weren’t very welcoming, and we had to ask for basics like toilet paper. The toilet lid was broken and the floor had cracks and holes. Having to use a key for everything made the place feel a bit like a prison. I won’t return.

The Wi-Fi didn’t work over the weekend, and our room had a broken window, which they wouldn’t discuss. We booked two nights, but on each night we were told our room wasn’t available, apparently because other guests were using it. The second time, they said we could take whatever room was available or leave the hostel. The staff were unfriendly, the rooms were very low quality, and some bathrooms had no doors. Worst place I stayed in Mexico. I’d avoid it and spend a little more somewhere else in the area.

The rooftop terrace has lovely views over the bay and zona romantica at any hour. We stayed several nights and usually had breakfast there: fresh fruit and juice, coffee, and homemade banana bread. The reception staff were nice, and Yasmin speaks English really well. It’s a clean hostel in a pretty hillside spot, with a short, manageable walk up the steps. If you can, get an upstairs room with a view. The economy room is dark and could use more air, but that’s what you get at that price. We had a great stay and would come back.

My family and I didn’t even make it through a day before leaving. The room cost way too much for what it was, and the bathroom had no door. The sheets didn’t cover it either, so there was no privacy. The staff were rude and said we had to wash our own dishes, which seemed ridiculous on vacation. There were lizards in the bedroom, and the hallway was dark at night. Worst hotel I’ve ever stayed at. Please don’t spend your time or money here!
