The setting is beautiful, but the stay at Secrets Bahía Mita was a letdown from the start. Several pools were closed, and the ones open didn’t keep to their posted hours. We were told off and made to leave nearly three hours early while we were just relaxing. Service at the pool and beach could take over an hour, and the drinks didn’t match the bottles listed on the menu. The cheap liquor was easy to taste. Meals were bland and repetitive, nowhere near what I’d expect at this price. The spa prices also felt misleading. Quotes seemed to change depending on what we asked, with restrictions on many services or pressure to choose “premium” options. Add-on experiences were pushed throughout the trip, which made it hard to unwind. A lot of staff seemed frustrated and overworked, and we could hear them openly complaining. It gave the resort an atmosphere that felt focused on cutting costs instead of looking after guests. The spa, food, service, and general feel didn’t live up to the image being sold. I wouldn’t recommend staying until management deals with these problems.

The beach itself is pleasant, with chairs, bar service, volleyball, and whales passing by. The water right in front of the resort is another matter: it’s very rocky, and the rocks are rough and sharp. At high tide in the morning it looks inviting, but when the tide goes out in the afternoon you can see the hazards. Swimming there can leave you with scratches and scrapes. We waited until afternoon and walked over the rocks to the neighboring resort to swim. It has a few rocks, but nothing serious. Water shoes are handy, though not essential, and flip flops worked for the walk after lunch. I took my inflatable boogie board next door for the afternoons, then came back to clean up and enjoy dinner. There were surfers farther out who looked like they were having fun. The neighboring resort also offers beach massages at reasonable prices, and I thought they were excellent. I filmed the beach from about the same spot once at high tide and again when the afternoon tide was out, to show the rocks. This isn’t something the hotel can fix, but be careful about swimming directly in front of it. We came for New Year's Eve 2025, our second visit, and nearly everything else was a positive. We were a group of 10 adults, including a couple of people with serious dietary needs, Celiac and lactose. At check-in, guests with dietary issues get a card listing them. We showed it to servers at the restaurants and they made sure the meals didn’t conflict. Across two years, no one had stomach problems that could have cost us a day or two of vacation. The food was simply excellent, and we never had a bad meal. Of the 12+ resorts we’ve tried around PV, this one has the best food. Nonalcoholic beer was available at every bar and restaurant we visited, which the nondrinkers in our group appreciated. The staff were outstanding, genuinely friendly and helpful. We also had a lot of fun at the waterpark and pickleball courts. The gym was the best I’ve seen at any resort in the PV area. Beds were comfortable, the shower was excellent, and we had no complaints there. The resort is quite isolated, so getting elsewhere means a fairly long cab ride. In the evenings there aren’t many places to sit and relax, which was a challenge for our group after dinner, though less of an issue for a couple. The rooms were quiet and sleeping was no problem, but outdoor dinners in the main courtyard had live music and DJs at a volume that made conversation at the table impossible. The music was great, as was the food, but it was unnecessarily loud. A couple of pools had the same issue in the afternoons. I recommend the resort, especially for people with dietary needs, with care around the ocean swimming.

The wedding was stunning, thanks to the couple’s careful planning, and I’m glad I got to celebrate with my friends. The resort itself was a different story. We booked upgraded preferred rooms expecting the higher level of service, but nobody welcomed us into the preferred lounge. Check-in happened in the main lobby, and no one showed us to our rooms, so we spent a while lost. That was just the first hour. I’ve stayed at other resort brands in PVR with equivalent preferred service and had an incredible experience. Secrets fell short on service and location. There are half-built buildings around the property that spoil the view, so you have to find clever camera angles. The beach is tiny, and there’s no adults-only section. Secrets, which is adults only, and Dreams, where kids are allowed, share a courtyard and some pools. Even though our room was on the Secrets side with a panoramic beach and resort view, it looked over a pool full of screaming children. The adults-only feel seemed limited to the bar and restaurants, while families were elsewhere around the resort. I’ve never had this at an adults-only property before. It worked for a family wedding, but I don’t plan to return. If you want attentive service, a quiet beach, and a place without children, this wasn’t it.

Getting around was awkward. The layout is funky, and heading anywhere meant walking to at least two elevators. The rooms were okay, a little run down, though the bed was comfy and the fridge was restocked daily. Sound carries straight into the room, too. You could hear people in the hallway clearly, which wasn’t great when big wedding parties came back at 3:30 a.m. The ocean views are beautiful, and there are pools all over, including several infinity pools. Restaurant menus were great, and service everywhere was top notch.

I’d hesitate to come back while the resort is still handing out plastic bottles. Every room at this huge property gets four bottles each day. With probably around 700 rooms, that could mean 2,800 plastic bottles daily if they’re all occupied. For a place right beside the ocean, that’s hard to understand. I’d want to see bottle filling stations around the resort and an end to the plastic bottles before returning. Apart from that, we had a great stay. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful, the room was clean and comfortable, and the food was very good for an all-inclusive with lots of choices. They were accommodating to our dog, too. The beach was nice, though rocky in the water. Free water shoes made it easier to manage the rocks in the waves.
