Playa Maya by MIJ

We were a group of four and loved our stay. The beach was beautiful through our window, and everyone provided amazing, friendly service. The spot is just off the main street, yet quiet at night. Breakfast was included and filling, a lovely way to start the day. I’ll be dreaming for years about drinking coffee while the sun rises over the ocean. The beach access and lack of elevators, which other reviews mentioned, didn’t bother us. We’ll definitely return when we’re back in Mexico.

We’d booked our five-day stay at Playa Maya by MIJ ten months ahead for a much-needed, carefully planned vacation. On the day we landed at 3:00 PM, while we were still 30,000 feet in the air, they canceled the reservation at 2:15 PM, saying only that they could no longer accommodate us. We were left in the rain for two hours trying to find somewhere else to stay. They wouldn’t answer our calls or the travel agency’s, so we couldn’t even learn why they had canceled. I’m incredibly frustrated that they could drop a reservation we’d prepaid ten months in advance. It made for a horrible start to our vacation.

The staff were helpful and friendly, and the hotel was quiet. The location worked perfectly, and for the price I can’t complain, though the rooms could use a little freshening up. There are lovely views, and the hotel is set back a bit from the beach. Finding the entrance is awkward because you have to walk along the beach with your luggage to get in. I’d recommend it for a night or two. Thanks again, see you soon.

We tried a day pass once. It covered sunbeds, food and drink credit, Wi-Fi, and use of the pool and toilets. The toilets were a bit run down and not the cleanest. We liked the facilities otherwise: the beach was clean, service from Alejandra was friendly, and prices were about what you’d expect. The light music through the day suited us since we weren’t looking for loud beach clubs.
