Hotel Diego de Mazariegos

For a hotel that looks this nice, everything else feels pretty budget. The room is very cold, and there’s no portable heater or air conditioning. There isn’t a kettle for hot water or tea either. They said I’d have to go to their restaurant across the street and pay for hot water. There’s not even a mug for making tea. The toiletries are just a tiny soap and a small bottle of shampoo. Unfortunately, I’ve already booked this room for two nights.

We stayed two nights and loved the hotel’s charm. The courtyard is beautiful and cozy, and you can have coffee or a light meal there. Our room was comfortable enough, and even had a fireplace for cold weather. The breakfast restaurant serves a great range of hot Mexican dishes, fruit, yoghurt, bread and cakes. It’s also a short walk from the central square. The staff were friendly, and I highly recommend the place for its location and character 🥰

We extended our stay by a day when my girlfriend got sick, and the staff were friendly and helpful when we asked to move into the main building. That room was much nicer. Our first night was in the building across the street, and I wouldn’t recommend it: it was hot and noisy, with people talking loudly in the hallways until 1 am and music from nearby bars making it hard to sleep. The hotel itself is beautiful, very close to the city center, and has free parking.

A traditional Mexican casa-style hotel with a modern touch, right in the city center. The cathedral and Centro looked amazing with their Christmas decorations. Recommended.
