Hotel Virginia

We asked to move rooms because the cleaning was poor. The rooms are small, the beds are awful, and the towels looked and smelled bad. It also took forever for the shower water to get hot. I wouldn't recommend it 😕

The hotel corridors have a really nice design, and the staff are kind. The room is small, though, and I'm not sure the sheets had been changed.

The refund request was refused after we decided to leave, and we had to return twice to try to speak with the manager. The receptionist first said they couldn't reach him and didn't have his number; when we came back again, after the boss had already left on our first return, the answer was simply that they don't give refunds. We had prepaid for two nights and asked for part of the money back for the second one. Looking at the booking register, we saw a listed rate of 450 pesos a night for two people, while nearly everyone else seemed to have paid less, with some couples paying just 250 pesos. We'd arrived in San Cristóbal on October 12, 2016, exhausted after a long drive, and booked two nights at Hotel Posada Virginia after another full hotel referred us there. That first night quickly changed our minds. The bathroom had a strong smell, probably from drains that weren't working well, and toothpaste splashes from previous guests were still on the tiles. The bedroom was basic, the sheets were stained, and there were no extra blankets despite the cold. Noise kept us awake too: neighbors played the TV loudly late into the evening, guests rang the bell directly below our room when arriving during the night, and traffic and occasional nighttime commotion carried on. The next morning we asked the receptionist to clean the bathroom properly. When we returned a few hours later, the room hadn't been touched, not even the bed made, so we decided to move elsewhere. The poor service was appalling. I strongly suggest finding somewhere else to stay, especially if you're a foreign tourist.

The staff were friendly, the location was great, and the stay felt charming and relaxing.
