Marii Hotel Boutique

Cafe Floresta deserves a mention. We ate breakfast there every morning, and the food and service were consistently great. Every meal was beautifully presented and delicious. The hotel itself was clean, from the room to the grounds, with a minimalist look. Each staff member gave great service, starting with the booking questions and ending with arranging a driver back to PV. Even though San Pancho was buzzing and loud on New Year’s Eve, we still slept well. The location is hard to beat, with a quick walk to town or the beach, while the hotel stays quiet and peaceful. The staff were wonderful, from the front desk to housekeeping and groundskeeping. Everyone was friendly and offered help with all kinds of things. We stayed six nights and really enjoyed it. The tropical plants make the setting beautiful, and our room was clean and comfortable, with air conditioning and a refillable bottle of filtered water. The pool was a little chilly but felt great on hot days. The upstairs restaurant had delicious food and made breakfast really convenient. It’s on a quiet street, but still close enough to walk to restaurants and the beach. I’d stay again and hope to come back.

When my friend and I asked for help during the shutdown, the management came across as defensive and dismissive. At one point they said none of the other guests had complained. We understand that the cartel and military disruption in Puerto Vallarta was beyond the hotel’s control, but we got no useful updates about what was happening locally or whether roads, restaurants and grocery stores might reopen. We heard nothing that evening or the next morning about whether the disruption had continued overnight. The town of San Pancho shut down, including its shops and restaurants, and the hotel restaurant was closed too. We were worried about getting enough food and water, but the response was confusing: we were told, “we left water but if you can buy water,” and that staff thought stores were closed. We had to go out ourselves looking for an open shop. Luckily we found one, then waited more than an hour for a few bottles of water and some food. Hours later the hotel messaged us that we could buy food at the same store. When we asked if someone could unlock the restaurant fridge so we could store our food, nobody came for hours and some of it spoiled. We ended up leaving a day early and checking into a similarly priced boutique hotel. Even in those circumstances, that hotel greeted us warmly and clearly explained where to find unlimited water, how late the restaurant was open and where to get food. Here, the lack of support led us to leave. After reading earlier reviews, I also saw another guest describe similar communication problems and say management dismissed their concerns. There are good things about the hotel. It’s well located within walking distance of everything in San Pancho, and has a simple boho look with plants everywhere. Breakfast and coffee at the restaurant were fantastic, with amazing service. The front desk was also helpful with taxis. In our room, though, the bathroom was completely open to the sleeping area, with no walls or door, so there was no privacy. The AC was weak, which may matter if you like a cooler room, though it was fine for me. The hotel has a lot going for it, but if you expect even basic helpful communication from management when a problem comes up, I wouldn’t choose it.

We travel a lot, and this was our favorite hotel so far. The room was lovely and very clean, the grounds were beautiful, and the pool was amazing. We had breakfast at the cafe every morning, and every meal was wonderful. The service there matched the food. The staff throughout the hotel were attentive, helpful and friendly. Highly recommend!
