La Brecha Hotel

The location was convenient, less than 20 minutes by car from the border, and the staff were friendly. There's no wifi, but I barely minded with the super clean tiled room and TV, the enclosed lot with cameras, and the low price of $40/night. For someone from the United States, that feels like a steal. San Luis seems safe, but the secure parking made me feel more at ease. It feels far safer than any Motel 6 in the USA, and pets are welcome too. I'm heading home from my first trip into Mexico now. When I come back, I'm staying here again. I don't even want to try somewhere else.

The woman at the desk was patient and gracious, even though she didn't speak English and I don't speak Spanish. I arrived very late before an early dentist appointment, looking pretty rough, and she treated me so kindly. I hope she owns the place, she has the class of a wealthy woman, though who knows. I'm realizing how little I know, and I'm not sure if people here generally dislike Americans or if I just see myself through rose-colored glasses. Anyway, the place is super clean, with a homey, consistent kind of clean, not a strong cleaner smell. There are no frills, no pool, hotel bar, or vending machines, but she gave me one of her own cups with ice, which was all I needed. I don't know the area or anyone here, and I don't speak the language, but I feel safe with her keeping watch and should sleep like a newborn bambino. I'm giving the location a 3 because I really don't know it. The AC can freeze you out. I kept mine on low, and that was perfecto.

The room was clean, and the AC worked okay. It was hot in the room when I checked in.

Just the usual customer service hassle, with the "I don't see your reservation :)" routine.
