The best part was feeling like we’d spent a week with friends, and I’m already looking forward to returning. Lee and Richard were warm and gracious hosts, the company was lovely, and, of course, the food was delicious. Their close connections to the community and knowledge of local history gave us rare insight into both the expat and native communities. We had such great conversations over breakfast. Casa Papaya was a delightful home away from home.

I still miss waking up to those fresh, varied breakfasts. Lee and Richard, who had just opened this b&b in their first year of retirement, seemed to have years of experience looking after people who want the best. They were seasoned visitors and had plenty of local knowledge to share. My friend and I may have been their first guests. I’d traveled to SMA for a special dinner I’d missed at Ariel's in Brookfield, Vermont, and Lee, an amazing chef, made an unforgettable, creative feast for me and some of her friends at this beautiful hilltop spot in San Miquel de Allende, MX. I highly recommend Casa Papaya for a relaxing vacation high in the mountains of Mexico. Just be aware that you need to like church bells ringing at odd hours. Travel & Leisure touts this as the best city in the world.

We came away with full bellies and new friends after a lovely Christmas dinner. The hospitality was great, and the food exceptional. We flew in from Playa del Carmen for the meal, hoping for a little taste of home since we’re originally from Vermont, like the owners, Lee and Richard. If you’re visiting San Miguel de Allende, add Casa Papaya to your itinerary.

The owners do a great job with the Sunday afternoon pizzas. You need to bring your own drinks and book ahead because space is limited.
