Rancho Hotel Atascadero

I expected more for $250 dollars a night and didn’t feel I got my money’s worth. The hotel is nice, but it seems like they charge for everything. We visited in December, when nighttime temperatures are around 40's deg. There were no heaters in the room, just a chimney, and firewood cost extra per night. There were no irons or hair dryers in the rooms either. For ironing, you have to pay for the laundry service by the item. The beds were old and hard. I’d booked for two adults and two kids, but at check-in they said breakfast was free only for adults and cost extra for the kids.

It’s a clean, comfortable hotel in an old hacienda, and the family rooms are great, though it isn’t luxurious. We had the place and pool almost to ourselves. The Botanical Garden is a short walk away. You can walk down to the center in about 20 mins, but it’s best to take a cab back up the hill.

Peaceful and quiet, the grounds at Hotel Atasadero are beautifully landscaped, with paths winding through what feels like acres and acres. They offer stunning views and let you enjoy nature as you wander. There’s a pool, jacuzzi, tennis courts, and lots of spots to stroll or sit. The restaurant has both indoor and outdoor views of the grounds. Just walking around feels like a dream come true, and it’s a must-visit for me every time I come to SMA.

The grounds were so beautiful and relaxing, almost like staying in a botanical garden. My girlfriend and I were here for a friend's wedding, and the staff made us feel welcome with how friendly and accommodating they were. I loved the hotel.
