Hotel Loma Real

I arrived at Hotel Loma Real at the last minute needing a room, then chose another hotel because I wanted something simpler. The front desk person still treated me so well. He could see I was exhausted and stressed, so he brought me water and offered coffee. When my taxi arrived, he went outside and spoke Spanish with the driver to make sure I got to the right place safely. I'm grateful for how cordial they were even after I decided not to stay. Amazing service, highly recommend.

The restaurant has a nice view, and breakfast was much better than dinner, which was mediocre at best. The hotel is an old Camino Real and it shows. Rooms are okay and clean, but many have connecting doors, so you can hear every word from your neighbors. There's also an old horse-drawn cart with a plaque saying it's from the days of the camino real path. The plaque says a pavilion was built to protect it, but the roof has huge holes and rain pours in. For the money, it's poor value and I probably won't return. If you're coming from Guatemala in a local van, it's about a 15 to 20 minute walk from Bodega Aurora, which is fairly close to the bus terminal.

You'll need a car here since the hotel isn't in a walkable area. It's a hotel from the 60s, but it's been renovated and kept in good shape. The rooms are large.

We spent from 3pm to 9pm there and ended up having to sleep in the parking lot all night. We'd booked three houses through Booking and Traveluro, at prices of 1,600 and 1,400 respectively, but the counter price that night was over 3,000. They wouldn't let us check in, saying they hadn't received the platform information. We showed the hotel's confirmation email and they still denied it. Booking called too, and they denied it again. The manager's solution was to let us cancel the Booking order and book directly with the hotel. We couldn't believe they would act in such bad faith over a little more than 100 US dollars. We've traveled around the world, and the management's behavior gave us a new understanding of integrity and a moral bottom line.
