Amaka Riviera Tulum

We booked eight nights at Amaka Calma and left after two. Its online profile, photos, and 10/10 reviews set expectations that the stay didn't meet. The neighborhood is run down, the building feels old, and the kitchen furniture doesn't match the flashy pictures. The shower door won't close and gets in the way while showering. There were holes in the towels, stains on the sheets, and a dead insect beneath them. Breakfast wasn't worth the extra cost. If the marketing hadn't presented it as something more, the place might have been fine, but the mismatch was disappointing. The business replied that it had offered a solution we didn't accept, but no solution was offered. New towels or bedding might have helped, though towels with holes and stained sheets shouldn't have been provided in the first place. We just want Amaka Calma's marketing to be more honest. Since the owner responded to my original review, I'm editing it to clarify. The business has our number and didn't reply to our WhatsApp message, so there's no need to pretend here that anything was done. Thank you.

The staff were friendly and helpful, and the free bikes and nearby restaurants and bars made getting around easy. We had a positive stay at Amaka, though several things kept it from being better. The private rooftop pool was too dirty for us to use, and breakfast was a limited sit-down meal with one simple dish to choose from, not a buffet or grab-and-go option. We had also looked forward to the in-unit washer and dryer, but were told right away that it was broken, with no repair plan. In the room, the window had excess caulk and large streaks, while the mirrors looked as if their frames had been removed and glue left behind. The thin doors between adjoining suites meant we could hear the neighbors as if they were in our room. Fixing these issues would have made us much more likely to return.

We had a great stay and would come back. The rooms were comfortable and very clean, and the staff were friendly and accommodating.

My boyfriend and I both said we could live here if we could. I didn't even go to my planned activity because I wanted a full day relaxing in the room and by the pool. It's my last day, and I really don't want to leave. There's coffee around the clock, breakfast made to order each morning, and a washer in the room. I wouldn't change a thing. This is the best hotel experience I've ever had. Muchos gracias.
