The landscape is beautiful, and there are fewer than ten rooms, so it didn’t feel crowded. The staff were nice, especially the restaurant/bar lead, who I think was named Guillermo. When we booked, the listing said “ether tulum,” but there was no sign at the gate or door. We asked people at a nearby cafe who seemed connected to the place, and a girl showed us around. The place is actually called “sacred hideaway,” which was confusing. It seemed to be transitioning into a hotel and wasn’t fully ready. Our “bungalow” was really a tent with screens and no mosquito net. We killed four mosquitoes one night. The room was quite small, with no table, desk, chair, or luggage shelf, so we kept everything on the floor. There are four steep stairs between the bedroom and bathroom/shower, which isn’t suitable for people with mobility issues. We paid almost three hundred dollars per night, so it didn’t feel like good value. There were black scraps on the bed when we arrived. Reception said they came from the fan and that she’d clean them, but when we got back after dinner they were still there. We cleaned them ourselves and slept on the same sheet. One night, the water went out just before we were about to shower. The pool is a small pond beside the bar, with dead leaves floating in it. It didn’t seem clean, and nobody used it during our stay. It’s a beautiful place, but there’s a lot to improve. It’s at the south end of the hotel zone, the luxury end, where restaurants are quite pricey.

Ether is one of my favorite beach clubs. It’s so chill and relaxing, and the food and drinks are excellent. The rooms are gorgeous, and it’s a wonderful place to host larger groups. I’d recommend staying here.

This has been a really upsetting experience. I booked a refundable reservation for March and have spent three weeks trying to cancel it. No one answers the phone, and my email asking to cancel has gone unanswered. I can reach them on WhatsApp, but they keep asking me to be patient and stalling. I still haven't received confirmation that the reservation is canceled. Stay away.

We had no bug issues and nothing to complain about during our stay. Ether is just steps from a gorgeous beach, close enough that we could hear it from our bungalow. The staff were so friendly, and there was a private place to park our rental car. You can find food, drinks, and shops right outside the resort, or eat and drink there. The food was fresh and delicious, and the bar made the best strawberry margarita I had on our trip. After a rough rental car experience at the airport, we had a perfect trip, thanks in large part to the wonderful staff at ether and the people of Tulum.

The tropical gardens on the way to the beach are beautifully done, and I’ll give the hotel credit for that. The room, though, had a bathtub that looked lovely but wouldn’t hold water because the plug didn’t seal, and the bathroom faucet was so loose I worried it might come off whenever I used it. The place looks stylish and high-end at first, but a lot of things seem poorly made or don’t work properly. It feels like more attention went to appearances and quick profit than quality, despite charging prices in the range of the area's best hotels. Our room was also beside a busy main road, with constant noise from motorcycles, cars, and parties. That may not suit everyone.
