Hidden Treehouse Tulum EcoHotel

The shower doesn't work, and the noise is so bad that you should expect to get no sleep. The front desk showed zero concern for guests. The sheets were stained, the bathroom filthy, and there was a mouldy smell. We also saw rats and cockroaches around the building. It was a terrible, eerie experience. This place was a pigsty, and I'll never return. I strongly suggest you do not stay here. You can get much better value for your money.

The location made this a great budget stay, with a mini market, cafe, and beach right next door. My room was clean and looked like the photos, the staff were friendly and really helpful, and the Wi-Fi worked well. I stayed four nights and would return. Just be aware that nearby music carries into the room until 2am, and the shower water stays warm only for a few minutes. There was nowhere to put clothes away, either. I’d suggest it for people who go out at night or sleep well through noise.

We had a great welcome from the check-in staff, and the cats around the place made the stay more fun. The rest of the staff were kind and helpful too, and the property is nicely put together. At night, though, music from the neighboring bars is loud. We also unfortunately had bed bugs. Our Cloud room had no air conditioning and got quite hot overnight. We should have checked more carefully when booking, but keep that in mind given the price.

The hardest part this time was figuring out how to reach the beach. The receptionist said the closest public entrance was a 20 minute drive away, while beach clubs charged a $70 cover. She mentioned Ahahu resort might waive the cover if we went to the restaurant. It seems odd to stay 80m from the beach and still have no reliable way to get to it. I came for the beach, not just to live in a tree, however lovely the tree is. This was our second visit to the Treehouse. We first came in December 2020, when the strip was packed with people and its clubs and restaurants were busy. The area has changed since then, with beach clubs charging entry and the Tulum beach area seeming to favor higher prices and exclusivity for fewer guests. The Treehouse itself is still right in the middle of everything, next to RosaNegra, where the partying is as lively as ever. The rooms remain eco friendly and have that treehouse feeling. We had another great stay.
