The Hun has potential and the location is great. It’s a unique place, but it badly needs updates. Our group of 14 stayed four days and ran into issue after issue. The staff were nice, though the service was poor. The unit doors didn’t make us feel secure. We had no water on the second night until morning, and never got hot water during our stay. Towels were scarce, the room safe was broken, and the outlet by the bathroom sink didn’t work. The pool for our suite was dirty, and some friends noticed a mildew smell. The manager apologized at checkout, but we weren’t compensated for any of it. The hand was a major attraction, with an amazing view over the jungle, but getting there felt dangerous. There were no rails on the steps and the structure was in disrepair. It would be interesting to see the place again after major repairs, updates, and some beautification.

We spent two weeks here for our honeymoon in Sept. 2021, and the place is beautiful. Every person on staff, from the owner to the employees looking after the car garage, was phenomenal. The restaurant had great dinner options, and as someone who is gluten free and vegan for health reasons, I really appreciated that they made sure I had a delicious breakfast each day. Brenda at reception was especially thoughtful with my husband and me. She kept checking in and made the trip feel like a real honeymoon. She’s a sweetheart and works so hard. I have no complaints about the hotel or its staff, and we’d absolutely stay again. 😬 Thank you for the genuine hospitality, Hun Tulum!

I’d read the latest review before our trip and admit it made me nervous. We’d booked months earlier based on reviews from earlier in the year, but I’m glad I didn’t let one review put me off. Our two story hut suite with a pool was very clean and tidy, and the facilities were better than satisfactory and well worth the price. There was a faint damp smell, but it’s a jungle on a humid peninsula, so I think that’s to be expected in many places. Hun was a new hotel still in its first year, after closing during the pandemic and reopening in July, or so an employee told us. There was a payment mix up at check-in because their system hadn’t updated after I paid in advance. I showed the employee my PayPal receipt and she was very cordial. We were early, but she took our bags and put them in our room once it was ready. When we returned to check in properly, I had to show the receipt again, and the staff were polite and let us go to the room without any trouble. We also got a fresh bottle of water delivered to the room for free. The check-in area and amenities are all sandy and staff rake it each day, so it’s easy to track sand into the room if you’re not careful. I’m not sure how other hotels would avoid that either.

I’d definitely return to HUN Tulum. The hotel is tucked away on Tulum’s Main Street, and having a guard outside each night made me feel safe. We stayed in a Presidential Villa, which felt worth the price: two stories, A/C, mosquito nets, and a small dipping pool. The property is well cared for, with a little courtyard between the villas. Breakfast was included every morning and was fantastic compared with other free breakfasts I’ve had. The staff were friendly and helpful. I recommend it to anyone visiting Tulum.

The receptionist was really nice about moving us, and we got reimbursed for the first night. Still, it wasn’t a good stay. Our first room was dirty, with bugs and flies all over the beds and a water leak right above mine. The sink and shower drains kept clogging. They said they’d clean and fix what they could, but all they did was come in and change the sheets. Management didn’t do anything else to sort it out. Save your money and stay somewhere else.
