La Casa de María 11:11

Chemuyil turned out to be a real find. We could walk or bike there using the bicycles Maria provides, and there are bakeries, restaurants, and well-stocked minimarts. We often stayed nearby instead of driving into Tulum. Xcacel beach is only minutes away across the highway, with soft sand, turquoise water, and a protected turtle sanctuary. The quiet jungle neighborhood just outside town gave us a retreat while keeping us close to places we wanted to see. We were overwhelmed by rental choices between Playa and Tulum, but Casa de Maria stood out for its design and amenities. After exploring the area, we knew we’d chosen well. We’ve stayed at Casa de Maria twice as a family, first for a month in the Penthouse and then, a couple years later, in a second-floor two-bedroom unit. Both visits were incredible, and it’s become a home away from home. Our son was just learning to swim on the first visit, and he really took to the water in the peaceful pools. Those family memories from both trips mean a lot to us. The home’s architecture and landscaping show care for the environment and local culture. It feels connected to the jungle while still having modern comforts. We didn’t have any problems with bugs on either visit, even in August. Alexandra (Alex) greeted us personally with a thorough walkthrough of the rooftop plunge pool and BBQ area, the shared cenote-style pool, bikes, and filtered water systems. The fridge had two bags of ice and six chilled bottles of water, which we appreciated in the Yucatán heat. The kitchen was stocked with good cookware and serving dishes, and there was a filtration system at the sink plus an eco countertop filter. Beds were very comfortable, with soft hotel-grade linens. Maria had also provided bug spray, first aid supplies, beach and bath towels, and candles for evenings on the roof. We often grilled fresh fish after a day out and ate on the Penthouse rooftop while our son played in the plunge pool under the stars. It felt private, peaceful, and luxurious. Maria, Alex, and the onsite caretaker Jordi were among the kindest and most attentive people we’ve met in our travels. They shared their time and knowledge generously. Staying here feels like being welcomed by people who care. We’re grateful to them and the whole team for making this such a special oasis and welcoming us twice. We can’t wait to come back a third time.

Alex, Maria, and Jordy were incredibly kind, helpful, and dedicated to making our stay great. The fully equipped Penthouse is the standout, with lots of comfort and complete privacy, though the other apartments are great too. You’re surrounded by jungle, yet the nearest Cenote is only 3 minutes away, a small grocery store is 5 minutes away, and the town is 20 minutes away. This place is paradise. I recommend it 1000%.

The location won us over even more after we explored Playa and Tulum the day after arriving. There are so many rental choices across the Rivera Maya, but Casa de Marias modern look, amenities, private rooftop plunge pool, and shared cenote-style pool stood out to us. Chemuyil is close enough to walk or bike to, and Marie provides bikes. The little town has a bakery, restaurants for locals and expats, and minimarts, so you can get provisions without making the 12-mile trip to Tulum. Casa Del Maria is also just across the highway from an incredible beach. We spent a month at this jungle oasis and really enjoyed it. Alejandra met us in person and showed us around, explaining how to use the penthouse, bikes, bathhouse, and pools. There were two bags of ice and six chilled water bottles when we arrived, much appreciated. The sink has a filtration system, plus there’s an eco water filter pot for the counter. The kitchen has plenty of good cookware for the gas stove and serving bowls for big family meals. The beds are comfortable and the linens are high quality. Maria seems to have thought of everything for comfort, including first aid supplies, bug spray, bath and beach towels, and candles for the private rooftop plunge pool and BBQ dining area. We encountered few bugs in August, though perhaps there are more at other times of year.

The care and attention from Maria and Alexandro were outstanding from the day I arrived. I travel a lot and came to Mexico exhausted. Spending two months here was a blissful change that literally saved my life. The place exceeded what I expected. Finding and arranging accommodation can be difficult and painful, as it can be in Latin America, but the build quality, modern architecture, and beautiful furnishings were a huge step up from many places I’ve stayed. There are one-, two-, and three-bedroom apartments, all beautiful and comfortable, with everything you might need. The location is close to X-Cacel, a genuinely wild beach, and lots of great cenotes. The local team, Alejandro and Jordy, were incredibly willing to help with every detail. Alejandro checked that I had what I needed, fixed my AC even though it was complicated, and met me in Playa Del Carmen many times to help with translations, food shopping, and buying a cell phone. He worked hard to make sure the service was right. He also kept a piano for my friend, who got it back five months later. I invited him to lunch a few times. We had several packages delivered during my stay. One or two were temporarily misplaced by the courier, and Alejandro called to track them down. Once they arrived onsite, Jordy brought them straight to my flat. Internet service in Mexico can be unreliable, and I had some normal issues with the local provider. Alejandro made an extraordinary effort to find me a reliable internet box so I could finish my online work on time. I don’t often write long reviews, so that probably says enough.
