Selina Tulum Downtown

Downtown has a different feel from the beach, but there's plenty to do. Getting to the beach takes time and money, so take the collectivo if you can. The rooms were nice and quiet despite being near the highway, and the workers were really friendly. I loved Wednesday morning yoga, and Mikey made me a delicious welcome drink. It felt very affordable for what you get, and I'd stay at Selina Downtown again.

The service was top notch, with such kind staff. Reception was really helpful and even upgraded me at check-in. The property is right downtown, along the bike path to the beach, and I enjoyed the gym, two pools, yoga room, and co work space. They also had fun parties on the roof. I'd recommend it to anyone wanting a comfortable, lively place to stay in Tulum.

Selena downtown is set up for digital nomads, with a co-working space, communal kitchen, and rooftop bar for people mixing work and travel. The hotel seemed relatively new and offered lots of amenities, but the housekeeping listed as daily never happened. There was trash in our room on arrival, the floors were very dirty, and the shower sprayed across the bathroom. A grout problem in the shower let water leak into the wall and create mold. We reported the cleaning and maintenance problems to the desk, but nothing was done. The hotel offers limited access to its beach location, with a shuttle for a few dollars. Parking is in a garage below the building, but there's no stairway or elevator from the garage into the hotel. Food is an easy walk away, and we felt fine walking at night as a family, though I probably wouldn't walk alone. Shops, transport, and a bike ride to the beach are all accessible. The on-site wifi was dependable. The guests come for a good time, so solo travelers could make friends easily. Once the party starts at night, the paper-thin walls let you hear everything. If you're an early sleeper or traveling with family, expect the party next door into the early hours and bring earplugs or patience. Quiet hours aren't enforced.

The location is excellent, and Selina Downtown is a gorgeous building with murals, plants, art installations, and tasteful places to sit. I loved the spacious kitchen, the comfortable dorm bed, and the two balconies with lots of natural light. Staff were nice, yoga classes and access to the beach location were great, and the resident cat and fluffiest puppy made the place feel like home. Other guests were lovely to talk to as well. I first stayed three nights in early October, then came back planning one night and stayed four. With prices this good, I'd return many more times and recommend it. Some shared areas need more attention. I want the yoga room in the wellness space cleaned properly so people can use it. I still did dance and yoga there, but it was really dirty. The ground pool had styrofoam and debris floating in it, the kitchen could use updated cooking supplies, including nonstick plans with lids, and the library lights don't turn on, so it's usually too dark to read. In the dorm, the shower didn't drain properly and the water was never hot. I messaged staff, who always replied quickly and checked on it, but the problem wasn't fixed. I think that should be easy to sort out.
