Villa Amara

The house is beautiful, but our five-day stay was a nightmare. We paid $10,000 and got no reimbursement, even though three days had no electricity or water. We were reduced to carrying buckets of pool water to use the bathroom. They said it was a government issue and nothing to do with them. But the neighboring house had power thanks to a generator. If outages happen often enough to need a generator there, this house isn’t prepared for guests. The company we rented through, Evoke, provided horrible service. There was only one set of pool towels, so we had none while those were being washed. The bathroom towels had stains and holes, nothing like what I’d expect in a place advertised as a “luxury home.” The kitchen wasn’t equipped, the chef couldn’t plate the food properly, and neither of the two refrigerators cooled at all. The freezer was out of order. I could go on, but I don’t recommend this house at all. Half a star for this “Luxury House.”

I’m obsessed with Villa Amara. We came to Tulum for my 30th birthday and stayed a week, and I’m so happy we found this place. The pool was great and the temperature was just right. You’re right on the beach, with every room and every bed facing the water, so we woke up to amazing views each morning. The house was wonderful, and there was daily cleaning. Bere and her husband West look after the property and are there for anything you need. Bere cooks too, and honestly, her food was better than a lot of what I ate at restaurants. I eat out a lot, so I mean it. It’s great for families or groups, or even a private, romantic weekend away. I’ll definitely be back.

This is a lovely place, but we had a terrible experience. $1,000 was stolen from me, and money was also taken from my son’s backpack in his upstairs room. The theft happened on the day we arrived while we were inside the house. An outside shower door had been left unlocked, and the shower hadn’t been used, so the door should have been locked when we got there. If this wasn’t an inside job, then the house wasn’t properly secured and someone got in through that door. I messaged the owners repeatedly about it and never got a single response.

A dream of a place, with fantastic staff and an AMAZING private chef. I’d stay again and again, 10/10!
