I liked how easy it was to get around from here. The hotel is close to the whole downtown area and the ADO bus station. The rooms were clean and the beds comfortable. Some of the facilities are old, though they’ve been renovating, and we had no real complaints except that there was no hot water during our stay. There’s an Asian food shop in the lobby with interesting things to try, which the kids loved. I’d stay here again.

The staff were friendly and attentive, and everything else was fine. Breakfast could have had more options. We didn’t get to use the pool, and the TV in our room was unusable because the internet was down. The elevator broke twice, so we had to take the stairs, and there should be more parking. The hotel is downtown Tuxpan, around 20 minutes from the beach.

I paid for two nights and three full days for a trip to Veracruz from January 7th to 9th, but I left the hotel on January 7th after seeing the room. There was soot and lint on the closet wood, stains that looked like bodily fluids and hair on the blankets, a stain on the curtain that looked like feces, a soaking wet bathroom, a terrible smell, and a lot of noise. I couldn’t handle even one night there. I also tried the pool to distract myself, but came out with a rash. My trip to Veracruz was ruined. At the bus station I found out my bus wasn’t leaving until 11:59 pm, so I called to ask if they could help or move me to another room. They said they could, but after reading the hotel reviews, I decided not to go back. Guests shouldn’t be received in those conditions. They refused to refund me, either. The noise from outside was bad too. I DEFINITELY DO NOT RECOMMEND IT.

The buffet was good, and the housekeeping staff and one man at reception were helpful. That’s about the only good I can say. We’d already paid for five days and had five rooms, so we stayed, but all of us agree the hotel is awful. The place was filthy, Wi-Fi was terrible, and the receptionists offered no customer service. Hot water came and went, and twice the water stopped completely while I was showering. On our first day, the pool area was covered in trash. They blamed the lack of staff on it being December 25th, without apologizing or offering a solution. We waited over 30 minutes just to get a half-hearted response when trying to buy drinks. The elevator is also out of order in this six-story hotel.

The location worked well for us. During Carnival we were only about a three-minute walk away, and most of the staff were very friendly. The buffet was decent, though some dishes were better than others. Breakfast and dinner were nearly always the same spread: sausages, chilaquiles, spaghetti, rice, beans, potatoes with meat in green sauce, boiled eggs, pancakes, plantains, sweet bread, orange juice, lemonade, coffee, fruit, yogurt, and milk. They also sell some Korean and Chinese products. There’s an elevator, parking, a pool (don’t go in), and room 101 has foosball, a pool table, and a massage chair. Still, there’s a lot to fix. The buffet area needs proper fumigation because cockroaches keep roaming around. Rooms need maintenance: our first room had a clogged toilet, and reception moved us because they didn’t have enough staff. My parents’ toilet leaked a little and eventually smelled bad, though it was cleaned well during housekeeping. Some TVs don’t work, and the TV and AC remotes need working batteries. The hallways often have clumps of dust and lint. Hot water was available only one day of our stay. Reception said their solar panel doesn’t heat the water properly in bad weather, but they need another option. Staff training and better communication between shifts are needed too. One day we left our room keys, but when we came back the receptionist and his colleague insisted we hadn’t. We and other guests waited about ten minutes before he suddenly remembered to check somewhere else, where the keys we’d never left were sitting.
