We came for three nights to see Uxmal and the nearby ruins, just after the busy season, and the Hacienda made a lovely base. The setting and main building are gorgeous, with a spacious room, a little separate area for our son, two bathrooms, and a king bed. Each day we came back to a new towel design. The mattress was firm in a way we liked. There was no hot water at first, but they fixed it quickly. Breakfast by the pool was a treat: fruit from the plantation and fresh eggs, which our 8 year old got to collect from the hens. The pool was clean and pleasant, with loungers and shade. Staff looked after us so well, especially Matteo, the front desk team, Luis Rex the concierge, and the manager. They all spoke some English. They also set up a two hour private tour for $50 with Jorge, a lovely guide who has been at Uxmal for 50 years. The restaurant at the Hacienda was only open for breakfast while we were there, so we had dinner at The Lodge on two nights. There were only two other groups staying then, so that made sense. We felt very well cared for at this historic, lavish place. If you're visiting Uxmal, I'd stay here.

The staff were wonderful, and we really hope to return. Our room was spacious and luxurious, and the hotel itself is beautiful, with a fascinating history and a lovely setting. Breakfast was excellent too, with farm fresh eggs, local fruit, and fantastic papaya marmalade. Thanks for everything.

The location right across from Uxmal is the one real advantage here. For the money, we found the stay deeply disappointing and can't see how this merits four stars. We had booked the main hotel but were moved to The Lodge when we arrived. It felt old and worn, and the refrigerator made a noise like an idling car in the room. The shower only got lukewarm, with barely any pressure, and the supposed shampoo seemed like watered down soap. There was little comfort or quality. The pool was leafy and dirty, and the Wi-Fi hardly worked in our room. At check-in, we weren't given useful information and had to work things out ourselves. The staff spoke very little English. With the location doing all the work, we experienced little hospitality. We wouldn't recommend it, and it wasn't worth the price.
