The resort is already there, and it does give more people a chance to enjoy Calakmul’s nature and archaeology. I do understand the concern about building it on a piece of climax rainforest, and I share it. Still, my wife and I had two lovely days: the solar and battery-powered hotel sits right in the jungle, the facilities and service gave us nothing to complain about, and the price was very reasonable for spending time at the Calakmul archeological site. After a morning climbing pyramids, relaxing by the lovely pool in the afternoon felt great.

It’s so peaceful with dense jungle all around, and the food was good. The hotel feels new, with spacious, nicely furnished rooms and clean white towels. I really don’t understand why there are so many bad reviews.

I really hope they do well, but I also hope nobody else builds in the jungle. Keep it wild and nice. The hotel itself deserves credit, though. It’s clean, brand new, and very nice, with European 5-star standards. The design is top notch, and the staff are trained to treat you like you’re in a luxury place. I don’t get the few bad reviews. Bugs coming in? You’re the bug coming into the jungle, remember that. Sure, there are tiny, harmless insects around, but you see that in plenty of other places too. You’re deep in the jungle here, about a 53 km drive to reach the hotel, and it’s a must-stay if you’re exploring the Yucatán. One waiter deserves a special mention. I think his name was Gerardo, though I’m terrible at remembering names. We had a great chat over breakfast when we were the only table there early in the morning. I’m Spanish, and wanted to talk history with someone local who was interested in the subject. He was also incredibly professional at work.

The staff were friendly and welcoming, and Beatriz was an amazing masseuse. Thanks to her. For the price, though, the stay was a letdown. There’s nowhere nearby, so you have to eat at the hotel, but the meals were very bad and there were no vegetarian options. They had to make me pasta, just a small, bland portion with tomato sauce. It was so little that I ordered fries too, and got about 10 even though I’d asked for the large portion. The pictures show it. I’ve been surprised by how much Mexico caters to vegetarians, and I don’t expect that everywhere. But at an expensive hotel with no other places close by, I do expect to be able to eat. Really disappointing, especially if you’re staying multiple nights. Then reception charged me $1.824 instead of $812. I’m still waiting to get my money back, and having to pay twice was very inconvenient.

The massages were the best part by far, and the therapists are out of this world. I had one from Rubi and another the next day from Beatriz, the best massages I’ve ever had. The hotel is super clean and comfortable, but the service was horrible. Restaurant service was disorganized and unprofessional. We also had no hot water for two days, and they offered us a free juice as compensation. I won’t be returning.
