Barceló Maya Riviera - Adults Only - All Inclusive

After trying several restaurants on the property, Dolce Vita was easily my favorite. The food was impressive, beautifully presented, and thoughtfully balanced, and the wine pairing suggestions made the meal even better. The collection is strong, and Gerardo Álvarez and Erubiel Caalal knew it well. Their service was attentive and professional without feeling stiff. They kept the evening moving at just the right pace and seemed to know what we needed before we asked. When my lap napkin fell during dinner with my date, one of them quietly replaced it right away, without interrupting us or making it awkward. That small moment said a lot about their attention to detail. Every course arrived at the right time, and everything felt carefully prepared. If you eat at Dolce Vita, ask for Gerardo Álvarez and Erubiel Caalal. They really set the standard.

We had a lovely week, with gorgeous weather, and the rooms and property were clean. The drinks could've been better, though ;) We enjoyed La Dulce Vita and Sapporo most, and Modesta De La Cruz was such a sweet server. The salmon was delicious. Sarah, one of the pool activity directors, was fun and really sweet too. I'd definitely recommend booking the restaurants.

We'd happily come back. We were very pleased with the experience, and the price felt worth it for what we got. The food at the restaurants was a pleasant surprise for an all-inclusive, and the buffet was solid. Drinks were excellent, too. The resort was peaceful and relaxing as an adults-only place, with lovely pools and beach views over the ocean. Our room was clean, spacious, and comfortable, and the staff were friendly and attentive. The hotel felt modern and luxurious, with high ceilings and broad corridors. It's a big property, so the walk from our room to the main areas took about 10 minutes, which was fine with us. At check-in, a little more guidance on restaurant bookings and getting around would have helped. Since the resort is so large, that would've been useful. Having access to the nearby resorts was a bonus.

The beach is roomy compared with the neighboring Barcelo resorts, so you're not squeezed in with other people, and getting a chair was easy. It's a great spot for adults wanting quiet downtime along with some activities. Silver led fun dance and aqua aerobics classes, and Carlos at the music bar seemed to know what people wanted and poured generously. We loved the dinners at Agave, both the sit-down menu and taco bar, and at La Comedie, the French restaurant. The shrimp main and al pastor tacos at Agave were must-eats, as were the short rib and lobster at La Comedie. Service at the taco bar was a bit slow when we sat at the side high-top tables rather than at the bar itself. The shows were scaled back and focused more on music, like you'd hear at a jazz or other music bar. The Cuban salsa group and violin/Sax duo were great. Those options suit people who aren't into big production shows, though it's also quick and easy to take the double decker bus to the theatres for those.
