Hotel Villa Mexicana

We've already got plans to come back later this year after such a good stay at Hotel Villa Mexicana. The grounds were impressively clean, the staff very friendly, and the location was perfect. I only wish there were bar fridges in the rooms. That was surprising and a little inconvenient, especially with small kids.

We thought we'd book a couple of nights, look around in person, and move elsewhere if we found a better fit. We do that often, but ended up staying here for our whole vacation after visiting probably 10 other properties. There are other great options, and Irma, their sister hotel, tempted us with its great views, but it's not on the beach. In the end, Hotel Villa Mexicana checked our boxes best. We found it online and hoped it would match the pictures. It did! We had 2 rooms. The first was on the lower level, about 100 ft from the waves and right by the pool. Then we moved to the second floor, where I liked the view and the extra privacy. The rooms are on the small side, but super clean, and housekeeping was excellent. I missed having a refrigerator in the room. The shower was great and the water always got hot, though it took a little while. Parking across the street was free, and we had a car. The staff and other guests were positive and helpful. Zihua is one of our favorite places, and this hotel is too. We travel quite a bit, so I think that says a lot. In our opinion, Way better than the craziness of Cancun.

Getting up and walking just a few feet to the beach felt dreamy, and there's a restaurant right there. Taxis wait around 24/7 to take you wherever you want. I prefer the 13 peso local bus's myself, it's fun chatting with locals and other tourists. For the pool or ocean, I'd highly recommend a hammock floaty, really fun and relaxing. If you're a techie, you might want to bring your fire stick since there aren't many good cable channels. I'll be back :)

When the menu is available, there's a large selection of excellent items at okay prices. I like the imaginearea with green sauce. The breakfast buffet each day has the best waiter on the beach, and the boss moves fast with no wasted motion. All are 👍 But in December and January it's a buffet ONLY, and so-so. There's no menu ordering then, so I won't return while that's the only choice. I'd come back for menu breakfast.
