Zipolite was a fun trip, and I’d gladly return to the city. I wouldn’t stay at Hotel Playa Zipolite again, though. I found them unaccommodating and felt they kept trying to take money from me. The pool and hot tub were being renovated during our visit, but the website didn’t mention that the main amenities couldn’t be used. We also got a stain on our sheets. Instead of washing them, staff left them under the nightstand and then said I owed 1000 pesos for replacements, even though a simple wash would have removed the stain. When friends came by for just 10-15 minutes before lunch so we could plan the day, I was told I had to pay 200 pesos per guest to have them in our room. They weren’t staying overnight or sleeping there. It felt like extortion. We were unfortunately in a room right across from reception. If you do stay, I’d try for one farther away, since they’re so close to the desk. My friends’ hotel, Naked Hotel, was much more accommodating. They let us spend time with our friends and use the amenities even though we weren’t staying there. It costs a bit more, but I’d choose it next trip. The staff there were incredibly nice.

This ATM offered just 6 pesos to the dollar, saying it would give me $3000 for $205 US. I’ve lived in Mexico for 6 years as a resident and have spent time in highly touristic places, but I’ve never seen this kind of exploitation. I know the dollar has fallen, but not by that much. Even with their outrageous fee, a proper exchange should be closer to $180 at this point. Disgusting.

A lucky find if you want a room by the beach with a swimming pool too. Cafes, restaurants, bars, souvenir shops, and places for everyday supplies are all close by. There’s a fleet of taxis ready to take you around the local area or make the long, treacherous trip back to the most surprising International airport at Huatulco.

I’ve stayed here three times, and my fourth visit is coming up in October 2025. The first stay was okay, but since then they’ve updated the rooms and I love the new look. The rooms are very large, the staff are great, and I have a favorite room I always request. The pool is nice, and there’s lots of comfortable covered seating right by the ocean. There’s parking for cars, and coffee and a great breakfast are at the front of the building. I really like the staff, a big improvement in one year. It’s centrally located, with easy access in any direction. This is my go-to place to stay in Zipolite.

I always have a fantastic stay here. This time, though, the pool was out of service for the whole visit, which was a shame.
