Grand Alora Hotel

I stayed two nights at Grand Alora Hotel in Alor Setar on a business trip. The café dining area got very crowded when it was busy, with all the tables full. My room was extremely dim, and I had to use my phone flashlight to see things. Not everyone is looking for a honeymoon ambiance, and guests who need to work would benefit from brighter, more practical lighting. I think hotel management should look into both issues.

The location was the one good thing, with plenty of shops nearby. My two-night stay was bad. The room was okay, but the Wi-Fi didn't work, and the bathroom was dirty and smelly, with a urine odor by the toilet. Check-in took almost 15 minutes because only one worker was there. The lobby air conditioning was broken, and it was so hot I was sweating. They didn't offer a fan or anything to cool the place. Staff service wasn't good either. When I asked about overnight parking, the staff member wasn't helpful and just said I might get a fine, though I saw plenty of other guests parked there easily the next morning.

I booked three rooms for my friends and me. Housekeeping was poor: one room meant for three adults kept getting only two towels and toothbrushes, another had a strong musty smell and I had to ask to change rooms, and a third had lizard droppings by the side table. Breakfast was simple.

The location is convenient, but the room condition and value for money were far below what I expected. I paid MYR 400 for the initial room type before switching, so I expected much better maintenance and cleanliness. The ceiling had visible mold, there was no bidet, and the shower head was rusty. The room was dark and gloomy, and internet problems made it difficult to work away from the office. They tried to change my room, but I ran into all the same problems there. I stayed at Grand Alora Hotel, checking in on 23 Oct 2025, and was quite disappointed. I won't stay here again unless they make major improvements.
